Planet of the Grapes boasts fine food as well as fine wine. With over 300 wines and a selection of tapas-style food on offer, it offers a unique retreat from the bustle of the City.
The simple décor allows the wine covering the walls to be the main attraction, with various wine-related pictures and photographs serving as an accompaniment. To encourage guests to browse the wines, Planet of the Grapes does not provide a wine list, but experts are always on hand to help make a decision.
The Planet of the Grapes menu has a Spanish feel, with dishes such as wild boar croquettes with grain mustard aioli, and veal scaloppini examples of the flavour-rich dishes on the daily-changing menu.
Offering an impressive selection of wines alongside hearty grazing dishes, Planet of the Grapes in London sits a 2-minute walk from Mansion House Tube Station.

The wine selection was disappointing for us on this occasion as the Gavi and Malbec had both run out.

The sommelier was very good and the wine recommendation after speaking with him for 10 minutes a or so was exactly what I was after. I had not been to this branch for a little over a year or so, I used to be quite a frequent, for me anyway visitor, I felt the mains menu was a little hard to find something other than a steak. It was my treat and my guest ended up with pie and mash, which was not very exciting. I thought there used to be a desert menu, this has gone. There was also no list of digestives, the waitress had to bring them to the table. So for me a disappointing evening after really looking forward to it. You have a branch of Vinoteca opening almost across the road from you right now so I think some work needs to be done to raise the standard back to what it was.

Lunchtime service and staff were very attentive and helpful. Went back during the evening and we had to get up and ask to order more wine, water and food. No one came during a 4 hour window to ask if we required anything further. Pretty poor.
Not sure we'll go back anytime soon.

Food was v good (I had the vegetarian option as outside of pies and burrs the options are a bit thin on the ground). The wine was v expensive though. £44 for a bottle of red that turned out to be Green. At that price I was expecting (and so was the friend that went with me) a lot better. The atmosphere is good ie a mix of smart, welcoming and not too noisy so you can have a conversation.
