Great food ideal for sharing and a good selection of wine to suit most budgets - we relied on our waiter to choose for us and we were not disappointed

Planet of the Grapes boasts fine food as well as fine wine. With over 300 wines and a selection of tapas-style food on offer, it offers a unique retreat from the bustle of the City.

The simple décor allows the wine covering the walls to be the main attraction, with various wine-related pictures and photographs serving as an accompaniment. To encourage guests to browse the wines, Planet of the Grapes does not provide a wine list, but experts are always on hand to help make a decision.

The Planet of the Grapes menu has a Spanish feel, with dishes such as wild boar croquettes with grain mustard aioli, and veal scaloppini examples of the flavour-rich dishes on the daily-changing menu.

Offering an impressive selection of wines alongside hearty grazing dishes, Planet of the Grapes in London sits a 2-minute walk from Mansion House Tube Station.

Excellent place to enjoy beautiful wine at honest prices.

Great food, very good steak and good value. However, the cheapest bottle of red wine on the menu was £50, which wasn't very attractive for a quick mid-week meal. That is more than twice as much as the steak. So although it's a wine bar, we had a beer instead. I appreciate you need to pay for good quality wine and P of the G has some very good wines. However, I would suggest it might be an idea to include one or two better value red wines to give people the choice.

Great evening at the Grapes in Bow lane. Staff are always excellent helping us choose and discuss the wine as well as supporting appropriate pairings. I've been to the Grapes about 100 times and I always come away impressed with the food. I do have some favourites: the burrata and the croquettas, but the bavette steak at my last visit was perfectly cooked, tender and full of flavour. Keep it up.

Overcharged significantly and rather passive aggressively dealt with by the staff on trying to sort it out. The wine is lovely though, but if you go here be sure to check your bill!

As always a very pleasant experience. Can be quite noisy when full. The menu of small plates has, however, changed to include a rather too high proportion of vegetarian dishes. Nevertheless, remains one of my favourite lunch venues.

The wine selection was disappointing for us on this occasion as the Gavi and Malbec had both run out.

The sommelier was very good and the wine recommendation after speaking with him for 10 minutes a or so was exactly what I was after. I had not been to this branch for a little over a year or so, I used to be quite a frequent, for me anyway visitor, I felt the mains menu was a little hard to find something other than a steak. It was my treat and my guest ended up with pie and mash, which was not very exciting. I thought there used to be a desert menu, this has gone. There was also no list of digestives, the waitress had to bring them to the table. So for me a disappointing evening after really looking forward to it. You have a branch of Vinoteca opening almost across the road from you right now so I think some work needs to be done to raise the standard back to what it was.
