Pleasant pub/restaurant. Well laid out with leather sofas for those wanting a coffee/drink etc. Dining area well presented. Service good.
Food, good and poor. Ordered the pie of the day which was turkey and ham. Arrived with nicely presented variety of vegetables which were al dente. Nice chunky chips. Pie however was not of a good standard or content. It was served in a shallow dish (like a gratin dish) so the portion of meat was meagre, even for my elderly mum and aunt. The chicken was cut into very small pieces and served in a thin gravy. The pie topping was a large flaky pastry which overwhelmed the meagre serving of filling. It was more pastry then pie. Sorry to be critical but the pie did not offer quality or value for money.
The dessert was lovely as was the cappuccino coffee.
We would like to return to try another dish to see if we were just unlucky with the pie.

Service was great. Warmly greeted when we arrived and I enquired about whether I could change the fries to new potatoes (which weren't on the Sunday menu) and it was no trouble at all. Food arrived promptly and we all had 3 courses each and weren't rushed at all. Led to a nice relaxing lunch and all the staff were very friendly and polite. 3 course menu had a lot of great choices and was really good value - highly recommend!

We booked the table through you which we found was an excellent service
We arrived at the restaurants in good time and was made to feel welcome
The food was excellent and also the service
The only down side for me as I am the gluten and dairy free
I felt that no real effort was put into my menu. The chef came out and looked at the menu and told me what I could and could not eat. Which to be honest is what I expected
To have made the evening especially special would have to seen a gluten free choice on the menu
Other than that the evening was a success

My wife and I enjoyed a good meal at the phoenix. We had a chicken dish and a steak. Both meals were more than satisfactory, hot, tasty and we'll presented. The steak was requested medium but came slightly over cooked, but not a problem for us.
The dessert, a special chocolate mousse in a biscuit cup, was fantastic.
However, the decor in the phoenix we felt was confused. It was trying to be a shabby chic restaurant, with apple crates and exposed stonework, but also pubby with out of place features and ornaments. We would recommend an interior designer and makeover.
