Thoroughly enjoyed afternoon tea. Our waiter was polite, attentive and he genuinely seemed to care about us and couldn't do enough even though it was really busy. Clean, bright, buzzing premises. Food delicious. Will definitely go again.

Lovely afternoon tea, plenty of tea and coffee refills and attentive staff.
The only let down was the toilet which was a mess.

I booked afternoon tea for two as a present for my boyfriend. We had to wait more than 45 min to get our tea and cakes! The staff was really unfriendly and even though I told them 3 times that we were waiting for forever they didn't even apologise.
Overall, we did not have a nice time, our experience was completely ruined by the bad atmosphere and the long waiting time. Why does it take 45 min to make a cup of tea and assemble a tray of pre-made cakes?!

Birthday treat for my daughter. Food was nice, although we didn't make it to the cakes! Waitress was lovely. Only downside was the space (tiny tables), especially after a shopping trip- & the toilet isn't in the best place.

I had booked afternoon tea for 2. I had a youngster with me whose 13th birthday it was. On the website, when booking, in the any special requests box, I asked for a candle to be placed on one of the cakes. They had no idea thaet I had made the request at the shop so obviously, this information isn't accessed before customers arrive. I asked about candles and was told I had to buy a whole packet of candles in order to have one placed and brought to the table. The waitress was very gracious about it. She gave good service for the whole of our time there.

However, that's about as far as I go in terms of praise of this experience at Patisserie Valerie. The afternoon tea contained finger sized sandwiches with very meagre fillings except for the chicken. Some of the bread was going dry and hard. Most were tasteless. The cakes were average. The scones good. I requested to replace the egg mayonnaise with another chicken less the tomato, which they did. I ordered Earl Grey tea; I didn't get it - ordinary tea was served which wasn't particularly hot. I had to pay extra for a fruit drink for my young companion because she didn't want tea or coffee. It might be a good idea to have alternatives on the menu for children which are included in the price.

One of the most aggravating and inconvenient issues was a lack of toilet facilities. The one cubicle was closed due to a maintenance issue. No note on the door saying it was 'out of order' was visibe and I had to ask twice whether there was another toilet I could use. I was told (eventually) that I could use the one in Waterstones or go across the road to House of Fraser which I declined to do as I couldn't leave my young companion alone. This was totally unacceptable.

Overall, this was a disappointing experience and not one I'm going to repeat. There are many outlets in Manchester that serve afternoon tea so plenty of choice. Why would I repeat a less than satisfactory experience?
