Boasting 2 AA Rosettes, Park House Cardiff is a restaurant and wine bar with a modern British menu. The contemporary creativity of the food contrasts with the grand Victorian property in which the restaurant is housed.

The Park House menu focuses on using local Welsh ingredients to produce creative, British-influenced dishes. Start with parsnip and coco bean salad with pickled chanterelles and hazelnuts, or the rich chicken velouté with brioche and cep butter. Main dishes include the sumptuous venison with juniper berries, sweet and sour parsnips, foie gras caramel and roast pear, or the grouse with curly kale, game crouton and parsnip purée. Fresh fish dishes are also on offer, like Cornish turbot with Wiltshire truffle risotto, wild mushroom and truffle broth, and Parisienne vegetables.

Park House restaurant also serves a lavish afternoon tea of speciality sandwiches, hand-made cakes and pastries, and freshly baked scones. Added glamour can be added by choosing one of the champagne or cocktail afternoon tea options. An extensive wine, whisky and cocktail list complements any meal at Park House.

Close to the iconic castle, Park House is an 8-minute walk from Cardiff Queen Street Train Station.

Lovely building, attentive staff. We all had the tasting menu and were surprised by the large size of some of the courses, specifically the fish and the risotto. We felt that these courses could have been half the size and been a bit more interesting as a result. Some additional beers would have been appreciated, maybe craft ales, as not all of our party enjoy wine.

We went for dinner after a graduation - not surprisingly lots of similar ideas and a very busy evening. The kitchen must have been under pressure, but still managed to put out a 5 course tasting menu for four people with different dietary needs. The building is beautiful, the staff attentive and the standard of food is high. We agreed we would go back another time.

A wonderful evening from the moment we arrived. Attentive and friendly staff, serving superb cuisine in a relaxed, but elegant atmosphere. And a truly outstanding wine list.

    An excellent dining experience.
Lovely surroundings - imposing interior but relaxed and and comfortable.
Staff - knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.
Food - we chose the 5 course taster menu. Every dish was just right - a variety of tasting experiences and great flavours and presentation. The wine we chose - a Chilean petit syrah was very good.

It was very quiet for lunch. I now understand the £45 per person holding fee for no shows. Very French twist. Both dishes (brill and venison) had a little too much salt - did mention this to the maitre'd but there wasn't any acknowledgement by 'Chef Andrew'. Not sure that he knew that he knew.

Overall - perhaps ok for a Cardiff fine dining experience but only during busy hours as food may be more uniform. Otherwise Chef would know! But it is an unoriginal menu.
