The food was very good, beautifully cooked and presented and absolutely delicious. However the service was poor. The Summer Dining Tasting Menu was excellent . The Canapés were exquisite, the salmon delicious and the lamb perfectly cooked and incredibly succulent.
The very disappointing aspect was the service which was disappointingly and surprisingly poor . We were asked for our cocktail order on arrival but they did not arrive and none of the staff noticed . We were brought the Canapés which we thought were perhaps a pre drink starter. We eventually asked where were our drinks , there was no apology but the sitter went to get them and apparently the order had got stuck in the machine ! They brought them out and I asked if they would delay our food so we could drink them but then a few minutes later they brought our salmon and we had to explain again. The courses were not explained by all the waiting staff, one or two whispered them as they put them down. The waiters were not attentive and we had to seek out passing staff for extra water, bread and butter.

The afternoon tea selection was very good. Every item on the menu was lovely. The staff paid very careful attention to the fact that my husband has food allergies and accommodated extremely well with an alternative. The waiter was very careful to note which tray was exclusively for my husband.

The dining experience, wine and service was excellent, with a special touch message on the dessert was fantastic for our anniversary. However this was somewhat let down by the fact when my wife visited the wash room, one of waitresses we had looking after us that evening walked straight out of a cubicle and back into the restaurant without washing her hands.

We (my sister and me and my 16 year old daughter) ate from the set 3 course menu at lunchtime. Crackling of fat with the pork belly starter was utterly tasteless and we didn't appreciate being told chef intended it for "texture only". The squash with my main was seared, but raw and actually inedible - again we were told that this was intentional in a rather hostile manner by the waiting staff and my daughter's vegetables accompanying her sirloin steak were so salty they were inedible (we asked her to finish her veg and then both tasted it ourselves). We did feed this back to the staff, but received no acknowledgement or reduction of the bill. We weren't rude, rather disappointed as it is one of my sister's favourite venues and she wanted to show it off to us. We were lunching to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday and it turned out not at all as expected.
