Booked the 6 course tasting menu to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and we were not disappointed. We had a couple of drinks in the Ox cave first of all and we're impressed with the ambience and the drinks knowledge of the staff serving us. We thought it odd that you could not go from the Cave through to the restaurant but nothing to complain about. The food was exceptional and of our 6 courses there was only one that didn't stand out. Unfortunately I did not retain the menu but we were both in agreement that the artichoke, lobster, beef and apricot dishes were outstanding. The wine pairings for all dishes was brilliant and the Italian lady sommelier could not have been better, being friendly and professional in equal measure. Our only gripe was that one of the staff delivering our plates was almost curt in the way she placed the dishes on our table. Also as we were almost leaving we were delivered someone else's appetisers. Not really the level of service you expect from a Michelin starred establishment.

The Cave was excellent for pre and post drinks. We had the 6 course taster but unfortunately was only served 5 courses as we realised we were not served the petite fours! We also had the wine pairing but the wine was served too soon prior to each course as the course was served 10 mins after the wine however we really enjoyed the meal and the staff were excellent thanks

Love the relaxed but upmarket atmosphere. The food was absolutely incredible and the best meal that my wife and I have ever had. My favourite dish was the chicken, skin, artichoke veloute and olive oil - with those sharp but also creamy flavours running through it. It’s something I’m going to have to try to recreate (Albeit on an amateur level). I found the food fascinating and the wait staff very helpful to talk about the food. I admire you all for working to a high calibre whilst wearing masks.

Loved the summer tasting menu! Highlights were the lobster dish, the beef and the seasonal blackberry dessert. Does 7 year old starter sourdough and cuinneog butter a starter make,I wonder? I have a slight problem with stairs (dodgy knees) and found these a challenge. However a wonderful night ?? and would return to a ground floor table!

The tasting menu was well prepared and food was a great standard. The halibut and then chateaubriand with miso were particular highlights. The cheese course was perhaps a little underwhelming though for price. To warrant a £40 (10%) charge, service was perhaps a little below the Michelin star standard expected, courses were not explained (“here’s your fish course” and the waitress walked off); no advice or offer to hang coats (appreciate covid-19); and upon arrival we were walked from the main restaurant into the bar next door, which would have been nice to know when booking (again appreciate covid-19 circumstances). However, the two more experienced staff were excellent and the overall service experience was very good.

Good food, average service and poor atmosphere. My partner and I visited for lunch on a Friday. On arrival we were met by the front of house, who informed us “you are actually sat next door in our wine bar”. There was no explanation if this was normal procedure or what the situation was. When we got into The Cave we were the only diners, the room was quite dark and it was extremely quiet - we felt like we had been banished to the extra bit on the side of the main restaurant. There was absolutely no atmosphere - apart from bar staff making drinks/ shaking cocktails which wasn’t enjoyable. The staff were ok - it is difficult with masks in the current climate. The female waiter wasn’t overly friendly and not very informative. We chose the 6 course tasting menu with matching wines - so from having eaten in a lot of Michelin star restaurants worldwide the service was very mediocre. We were given a menu for the first half but not until our pre dessert were we given our second one (after another waitress set it down saying “Apricot Soup” with no explanation. This was made worse when a large group that arrived an hour after us had all their dishes / ingredients explained - we felt short changed. The food on the whole was very good and I enjoyed every dish. The lobster was delicious and the amouse bouche were both delicious. The pre dessert being one of the six courses wasn’t expected. One bit of my chateaubriand was overcooked, being well done, and had been covered over with greenery. In this level of restaurant I would Not expect that to put on the plate. On the whole I enjoyed the food but nothing was stand out that I would remember after a couple of days. The wine was all paired well and I enjoyed all of them. There was however times the wine came 10-15 mins before the food and then times it arrived after. The afternoon was nice, food good but the atmosphere, service and being sat next door let the whole afternoon down. I’m unsure if I would go back soon.
