Upon our arrival at the hotel, we were warmly greeted by the hotel receptionist. We were then warmly welcomed by the restaurant staff, Jordan and Dante, who were very attentive with nothing being too much trouble for them. My guest and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals of 'Oven Baked Hake Fillet', which were cooked to perfection by the chef, followed by a Belgian Waffle and a Lemon Tart. Both Sweets were delicious, and were followed by a lovely pot of tea. Service was excellent in the beautiful and relaxing restaurant. It wasn't my first time to dine at 'Oscar's Restaurant', and won't be the last. Thanks to all the staff for looking after my guest and I.

Lovely room and good food served by very pleasant staff

My initial thoughts were that the menu was quite basic and lacked the "wow" factor, I have had the pleasure at dining previously at the original Southcrest Hotel (before the Quality Hotel change) and it was an amazing experience with an amazing menu and food. It just seems to be missing that something special that a hotel like Southcrest could and should be able to offer, simple things like previously a desert trolley would be available to choose your dessert, I just find that quite exciting rather than choosing only from a menu. My meal was good but unfortunately, my wife's main course was terrible, to the point that I did not pay (or was expected to pay) for it, it was the lamb main and it was totally overcooked and so so dry it was not pleasant at all, the feedback from the chef was that the butcher had supplied bad cuts of meat. Surely a competent chef would not use bad cuts of meat????? On the whole quite disappointing for such a beautiful venue that was previously a truly special dining experience, I hope it can return to what it once was.

We only had a main course. The mushroom risotto was tasty. My husband ordered a daily special described as spatchcocked poussin. It was indeed a poussin but it wasn’t spatchcocked! Nonetheless it was full of flavour. Whilst it was a reasonably busy Friday evening the staff gave the impression of being run off their feet. We requested bread rolls which never materialised. The drinks arrived promptly but the waitress then removed a wine glass which was needed. Whilst she apologised for the error she indicated that she had worked too long a shift! The staff dashed from table to table which made the dining experience a bit manic.

Nicely set up and staff warm and friendly. We went for a Sunday lunch roast as a special treat during a holiday at home. We had to wait a long time to order - about 30mins. Then the dinner took a long time to come, possibly a reflection on the fact that we skipped starters. There was plenty of meat and a good variety of vegetables, cooked in the current 'al dente' style. The broccoli spears were much too raw for me to attempt tho I did manage other veg. Roast potatoes were good. We had a dessert but found the lemon lacking the tartness that we like. Probably a matter of taste.

We arrived a few minutes early but were dealt with in a professional and courteous manner. We were shown to our table. The staff were friendly and helpful retaining a nice sense of humour. The food and service were good. Look forward to our next visit.

Afternoon tea was great. Room was very busy and a large group had stolen the chairs from our table. I had paid a deposit which didn't show up on the system, I had to pay full amount then ask reception to refund the deposit. She wouldn't so am waiting on accounts to get in touch. Not great, but have been going here for years and this is the first issue. Hopefully it will be sorted out soon

Had Sunday Lunch recently with my daughter. We were well looked after by the serving staff and after starters of soup and pate, opted for the Roast Beef. This came with a wide variety of vegetables which were included in the price and not "extras"as is not unusual in similar restaurants. The food was well-cooked,presented….and there was a lot of it!We had meant to have puddings but after 2 courses each with some lemonade and beer, decided we had no more space which was a pity as the choices were tempting.A good experience all round,at a reasonable price. Will definitely visit again for lunch and I am actually looking at booking the private Terry Room for a Wedding Anniversary in the Autumn, once I have finalised the guest list..We asked about it at Reception were shown around. The room is just what we want and the Menu is extensive.

Took my nan here for her 93rd birthday, booked for afternoon tea. Sat down at table for 6, under the table was an awful mess, slow service, sandwiches had stale bread, seemed hard, best thing about the whole afternoon was the scones, won’t be going here again. I paid £70 for the worst afternoon tea, I had ever had and this was a treat for my Nan, awful!!!
