Restaurant description

One Aldwych have created a magical afternoon tea experience that features indulgent treats inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Indulge your inner child and adventure into the magical, mouth-watering world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with One Aldwych's enchanting afternoon tea - inspired by Roald Dahl's iconic story

In the heart of London's theatreland, feast on scrumptious savouries such as our not-quite-as-it-seems salmon and beetroot macaron and juicy roast beef and horseradish, then journey on to fabulously fluffy floss and a box stacked high with wondrous cakes, sweets, mallows and creams - all washed down with chocolate or lemon sherbet tea, juicing room mix or water pistol punch cocktails, or fizzy lifting Champagne.'

One Aldwych is an award-winning contemporary luxury hotel in the heart of London, just a 4-minute walk away from Covent Garden Tube Station.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

Lovely lovely staff! So kind and polite and they really made you feel special. Great food and we got even more if we asked. After thanking them for the great starters the staff even gave us the recipe for one of the courses. So lovely ??

We had a lovely afternoon tea, the savouries were unusual and delicious we ordered more. The cakes and pastries were all scrumptious and the candy floss was delicious.

So we went to the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” inspired afternoon tea on Saturday and although quite good I must say I was disappointed ?? and would not recommend it and here is why. My boyfriend obviously ordered a non gluten free afternoon tea and he got a lovely selection of wraps, sausage rolls, sandwiches, quiches and savoury scone with bacon jam (you could reorder sandwiches with no extra cost) and, as I got all excited to see my selection, only to be disappointed that I had brown bread and all different flavours that were on not on the menu - not impressed. I had one beetroot (only beetroot), avocado & pepper and chicken coronation. I did have a little tart but the flavour wasn’t that great. Plus unfortunately the bread was a bit stale, like it had been sat out on the side for a bit. The team there were really good and saw my obvious disappointment and offered us both a glass of champagne which was nice but I think when you are paying £47 per person (yes you read right!) I would have expected more of an effort. For the sweets, we both had the same which was nice but again all was a bit like warm like it had been sat on the side for a bit too long. The cake pop was gooey and over sweet and the chocolate mint milk was not chilled like it should have been. I did really enjoy the candy floss but that doesn’t justify the £47 experience. There was nothing that reminded me of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, no golden egg, no chocolate fountain, no Willy Wonka references so that was equally disappointing. I do not recommend going here unfortunately and think you can get better gluten free afternoon teas in London.

Our first time here, it was amazing, staff on arrival very helpful, coats taken and seated by staf, everything was explained, service by ALL staff was excellent, they were helpful, polite and nothing was any trouble, no rushing you through the course, would highly recommend this event.

Beautiful setting and fantastic service from the moment you enter the door, no from the moment you book! A clever and delightful afternoon tea and not sickly at all as may be expected.
