Restaurant description

One Aldwych have created a magical afternoon tea experience that features indulgent treats inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Indulge your inner child and adventure into the magical, mouth-watering world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with One Aldwych's enchanting afternoon tea - inspired by Roald Dahl's iconic story

In the heart of London's theatreland, feast on scrumptious savouries such as our not-quite-as-it-seems salmon and beetroot macaron and juicy roast beef and horseradish, then journey on to fabulously fluffy floss and a box stacked high with wondrous cakes, sweets, mallows and creams - all washed down with chocolate or lemon sherbet tea, juicing room mix or water pistol punch cocktails, or fizzy lifting Champagne.'

One Aldwych is an award-winning contemporary luxury hotel in the heart of London, just a 4-minute walk away from Covent Garden Tube Station.

Dishes displayed on a la carte menus are representative of the type of food available at the restaurant.

It was very overpriced, nothing to do with the theme and we waited ages to be served.

We were welcomed to One Aldwych and ushered to the lift - we were welcomed to Indigo by very polite servers - they explained the tea options, the cocktails, and each savoury and sweet dishes - it was a fun experience

A truly magical afternoon from when we arrived we were made so welcome by the friendly but professional staff. They were attentive and explained everything about the food . The food was stunning especially the beetroot and salmon macaron. A feast for the tongue as well as our eyes. Loved it!

The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory afternoon tea at One Aldwych is just OK. I have had many afternoon teas in London and this was definitely not one of the best. Despite the nice presentation of desserts, I do not think it is worth the money, especially not at £37 for a child. The flavours do not really appeal to children either. My 5 year old daughter was so excited to see the candyfloss but repulsed by the lemon sherbet flavour. The mint chocolate milkshake is also too strong a taste for some children and a plain chocolate milkshake would be more appealing. I would suggest that the options offered for children are reviewed, as well as the cost. On a positive note, the service was generally good and the staff were nice and accommodating. A small birthday cake was brought out for my daughter so that was a nice touch.

A lovely experience with food that surprised. However we were expecting the place to be more like the ‘factory’ and the staff to be more like the whimsical characters. Instead it was a bit on the posh side and didn’t make for a very child friendly atmosphere. The ‘factory’ part of the restaurant is comprised of a few tables in one end of their lunch restaurant that caters to business people. But the food was good and the sweet part of the menu was fun and weird. However, the tea selection was small and the alcoholic cocktails cost more than the meal, so definitely only a one time experience when you have that many amazing afternoon tea places to choose from in London.

Superb service and food, a more relaxed afternoon tea than others but great for kids.

The afternoon tea experience was great and the staff at first very accommodating - however they tended to disappear after the first hour and was difficult to find someone to order or pay the bill. There is definitely room for improvement there. The food in itself was fantastic, especially for me as a celiac.
