One Aldwych have created a magical afternoon tea experience that features indulgent treats inspired by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Indulge your inner child and adventure into the magical, mouth-watering world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with One Aldwych's enchanting afternoon tea - inspired by Roald Dahl's iconic story

In the heart of London's theatreland, feast on scrumptious savouries such as our not-quite-as-it-seems salmon and beetroot macaron and juicy roast beef and horseradish, then journey on to fabulously fluffy floss and a box stacked high with wondrous cakes, sweets, mallows and creams - all washed down with chocolate or lemon sherbet tea, juicing room mix or water pistol punch cocktails, or fizzy lifting Champagne.'

When we first arrived we were shown to a table right by the entrance. We asked to move and this was done straight away which was really appreciated. The service was excellent, the food was amazing - definitely one of the best afternoon tea experiences I have had in London and I have had a few!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed afternoon tea was absolutely wonderful. The food looked and tasted superb and presentation outstanding! Great tea choices and and champagne just delicious. The staff were smart, friendly and polite. The restaurant was clean and welcoming. Overall an excellent choice and would go again if another themed tea was put on.

My daughter and I celebrated her birthday with afternoon tea. It was a lovely experience. The service was excellent and the staff were efficient and welcoming. The tea was very special. The sandwiches and savouries were fresh and tasty and we were offered more. The cakes were so quirky and different. Scones and brioche fresh and tasty with apple compote a change from preserve. We certainly didn't need extra cake. There was more than enough. Our teacups were filled up at regular intervals and we were given the opportunity to try a different tea halfway through which was a nice touch. My daughter had the cocktail which was presented in a glass teapot. They also produced a mini chocolate birthday cake for her. We spent almost 3 hours savouring the delights of this wonderful afternoon tea and were not hurried or made to feel we had outstayed our welcome. We will be back.

When I arrived to confirm my reservation, I was greeted by two men and although one of them was quite inattentive, another kindly directed me to the afternoon tea room. The waiting staff were more attentive than the lady on the phone (she rudely hung up on me because she didn't seem to understand me) and the man at the entrance and one of them was aware of my salmon allergy so he offered me a ham sandwich instead. I was even pleased that there was a non-alcoholic Cocktail Charlie on offer and it looked incredible with a tart citrusy and berry taste. I initially thought it was a hot cocktail due to the 'steam' coming from it but it was actually cold and the steam was probably a result of dry ice. I also asked for the Jewelled Apple tea but it took quite a while to arrive although it was worth the wait because it had a lovely sweet apple taste. The sandwiches and savouries were delicious on the whole but the tomatoes on the tart were a bit sharp. The waiter offered me more, to which I obliged. A little while after I was served my sweet treats. I was surprised to receive two each of most of them and the candy floss had a mystery flavour I'd rather not spoil for future diners... The Cocoa bean financiers were gorgeous as were most of the other treats although the lime, coconut and white chocolate cake pops were rather bland. I was soon offered more sweets but I declined and shortly asked for the bill, which also took a long time but the collection of payment and arrival of change were both quicker. I was surprised when the total came to around £46 because I thought it would be just over £50 if I ordered a Cocktail Charlie as well but I guess it was slightly cheaper if I went for the non-alcoholic option. Overall decent service, lovely food on the whole and a relaxed atmosphere despite the presence of young children who didn't bother me as much as those I came across at other restaurants and one party even had an adorable baby girl. 4/5.

This was a prefect treat for my friends birthday. We had a fantastic afternoon, the Charlie & the chocolate factory theme is excellent and very well done. The sandwiches are delicious and they gave us free refills of ones we particularly liked. This has been my favourite themed afternoon tea yet!

Went for afternoon tea pre theatre. We were not greeted straight away and therefore was left hanging around, watching others while they ate and drank. Then shown to table once we had stopped someone to ask where we check in. Cannot fault the afternoon tea food, it was outstanding. So fresh and flavoursome. My only issue was the staff were not around enough and did not come over to check that we were 'topped up' with tea, therefore we had to try and catch their eye just for a top up! Would probably go again just to see if it was a one off!!! Pleasant surrounds and we were not rushed which was good.
