A quaint little cafe seating just 15, On Cafe is a stone's throw from Clapham Common, and offers an inventive pairing of irresistible French pastries and beautifully presented modern dim sum, with outside seating for when the sun's shining.

The selection of dim sum delicacies on the On Cafe menu use both seasonal UK produce, and ingredients from Asian suppliers. There are gluten-free steamed dumplings with aromatic fillings like salmon, Thai basil, homemade tofu and Thai green curry paste, and Chinese steam bao made with savoury dough, filled with free-range chicken and shiitake mushrooms. Indulgent light bites include fried salt and pepper squid, and there are wholesome soups, as well as rice and noodle creations.

French patisserie treats at On Cafe Clapham are artfully crafted, and include choux buns filled with cream and additions like red fruit and hibiscus, while the French tarts come topped with colourful fruits and salted caramel. The drinks menu includes a variety of healthy, fresh juices, as well as exotic teas.

Also offering pastry-making classes, and offering a BYO alcohol option, On Cafe London is a charming and inventive blend of European and Asian dining. Clapham Common Tube Station is only 2 minutes' walk away.

Delicious food in a homely atmosphere.
The fried pork dumplings were heavenly, the best I've ever tasted.
BYO we picked up a lovely cold bottle of white from oddbins just around the corner from on cafe.

We had afternoon tea (set menu £35) and it was different, delicious, and the staff were really nice. Not your typical afternoon tea, as it starts with the traditional Chinese tea serving and it is followed by a combination of 5 dim sums per person (best I'd ever had) and French patisserie - everything made in house. We will come back.

The restaurant itself is definitely on the well lit side, ie you can see how it functions as a day café, so as time goes on they might want to consider how they turn it into a evening dining space. That aside however, the food is delicious and arrives very speedily. We particularly enjoyed the lamb bao buns and the duck pancakes (with rich almost satay like sauce setting them aside from the usual pancakes I was expecting), and the dim sum are always tasty and of a good quality. Throw in a plate of noodles and you have a filling and tasty supper for under £20 which in my book is pretty hard to beat in London. Will most definitely be back - if you want a swift bite to eat before going on to an event this is absolutely ideal. At some point however I intend to come back with a bigger group and take my time exploring the menu at length!
