Set in a half-timbered building from 1552 –the oldest of its kind in Manchester – The Old Wellington is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Close to Manchester Cathedral and Exchange Square, the traditional pub serves classic British dishes in a friendly atmosphere.

Since Nicholson’s pubs were first established in 1873, these traditional British inns have become synonymous with warm hospitality, hearty pub food and a speciality range of ales. As well as always featuring British pub classics like beer-battered fish & chips and gammon & eggs, the Old Wellington menu is complemented by a rotating selection of pie, sausage & chop and fish specials for each season.

The Old Wellington bar is always stocked with exquisite gins, warming whiskies and fine wines to pair with favourite meals, and there’s always a superb range of seasonal and regional real ales on offer. A constant at the bar is the St Austell-brewed Nicholson’s Pale Ale, made with Cornish Maris Otter malts, and a hand-picked blend of English hops.

Old Wellington in Manchester is a 10-minute walk from Salford Central Rail Station.

Love this place and the staff. We dine sometimes on our own or with friends, always enjoy the food and the wines. Staff are very curious and friendly and give a very good service. Easy book on line as well. If changes occur when booked they have no problem changing it for you.

Very traditional pub decor and setting, with a range of drinks available and a varied and tasty menu. A great place for lunch in the heart of the centre.

Tues 8th August. Very friendly and efficient service, Made my birthday extra special and the four mixed grills were fab. That is why we always choose to eat there when in Manchester.

We had a lovely meal at the Old Wellington. Despite the noise from the drinkers outside the restaurant was very quiet with a lovely atmosphere. Our meals were well cooked and nicely presented. A bit disappointed with the dessert menu but the crumble we chose was fine. The young man who served us could not have been nicer. He was very helpful and his manner was excellent.

Really enjoyed our visit. Friendly staff, good selection of real ales and nice choice of hearty food. Prices realistic. Can particularly recommend their Pies. Nice setting as well. Would definitely recommend.

We've been to The Old Wellington a number of times now for either lunch or dinner and have never been disappointed. Our last visit was just after their recent refurbishment of the pub. It's looks great and has maintained all of the important historical aspects. The atmosphere is quite special and we always make this a place to take our international visitors. The food is always good. A few of us had one of their pies for dinner. I had chunky lamb and it was really good.
