A longish walk along a dark, right-angled corridor suddenly opens into a very pleasant sitting/dining area overpopulated with smartly dressed young people who turn out to be the waiting staff. Who took ages to bring menus and drinks. They handed my guests a cocktail menu but didnt explain that the 3 course lunch included a choice of only 2 of the cheapest ones. But as the views are so good this was a minor fault. My Caesar salad was excellent, crisp and not too much dressing on the leaves. The 3 course lunch menu does not include vegetables / side dishes. So our party ordered 3 and they were very good but over seasoned with salt. We all agreed that our 2 desserts were beautifully presented and delicious. The 3 cheeses brought to one of my guests were too small, no butter was offered and the raisin & hazelnut bread, while fresh, was the only carbohydrate provided. They could have offered several bread or several different biscuits. I would have expected the cheeses to be British but the waiter did not know their provenance. The water jug waiter was attentive but the service was slow and the Staff were obviously not fluent English speakers. Trying to quietly settle the bill at the end of the meal was excruciatingly slow with several waiters not knowing what to do, and was the worst part of an otherwise good lunch.

Having travelled from Rugby in Warwickshire we were looking forward to memorable experience for which it was for all the wrong reasons.

Our seating location allowed guests to postion themselves in front of ourselves to take pictures while we were trying to eat our dinner!

I spoke to our waiter and expressed my annoyance for which he said ‘I understand as other guests have complained about this problem!!!’

I do believe a separate dining and drinking area would prevent such situations occurring and spoiling diners experience.

Also a designated space for picture taking would also be a good idea.

We were also shocked to see the attire that guests were in, ripped jeans and flip flops!!!

Overall a disappointing experience was had and one that we will not want to experience again.

It was my partners birthday which makes this all the more frustrating and upsetting.

Incredible views, got a table by the window, attentive service.

Could do with a bigger mocktail menu, (only 2 options)

Was a perfect experience for a special day

We wanted a special restaurant to celebrate our son's degree results, and The Shard appealed because none of us had ever been there. Three Shard restaurants offered three-course lunchtime set menus, and we went for Oblix East because their set menu offered more choice than Aqua or Hutong, and seemed likeliest to appeal to all four of us. Oblix East has an informal air, with seating on sofas and bar stools, but the service was very attentive and friendly. The menu was good: the grilled salt-beef sandwiches, chicken pot pies, coconut cheesecake and moist, flourless chocolate cake all went down especially well. Highly recommended.
