Excellent service and delicious food. Portion size was spot on and quality was excellent. One of the best restaurants l have ever visited and believe me I've tried a lot over the years.

Awarded 2 AA Rosettes and name-dropped in the Michelin Guide, Oakhouse presents hearty British cuisine. Perched in the medieval market town of Axbridge, the interior features exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings.

Making use of the best available West Country produce, the Oakhouse menu spans from trusty pub classics to a more laidback cheese, cider and ale range, filled with cherry-picked goods from the surrounding area, served with Wiltshire biscuits and local chutneys. Enjoy a juicy wild boar burger with triple-cooked cheese, or Creedy Carver duck with ham & cabbage rolls.

The lunch menu at Oakhouse in Axbridge consists of hearty ‘picnic baskets’ filled with artisan breads, or award-winning pies from the Humble Pie Company, like Somerset beef & ale, or pulled pork with cider and fennel.

A cornerstone of the community and surrounded by lush countryside, The Oakhouse pub sits just 7 minutes’ drive from the world-famous village of Cheddar.

Poor selection of main course. Alot of chicken. Pleasant surprise of an amuse Booche. Starters of smoke pigeon didn't taste of any smokiness. The main of sea bass x4 was sadly not enough on the plate for any of us. The flavours of all the meals were interesting. Deserts for the ladies were fine but the 2 cheese boards for the men were laughable. Tiny amounts presented on large plates. The impression was that "profit rather than quantity" was important to the hotel.
    Very expensive.

The restaurant had not received our booking via Bookatable - it was Father's Day - luckily as we had been before, they gave us a table!
The food was great - prawns with avocado sorbet and the pate starters were very tasty. The roast beef was cooked medium rare, with a nice Yorkshire pudding and a lovely selection of perfectly cooked vegetables - perfect! Plenty of it, we could not fit in dessert. Friendly helpful service throughout, good beer and wine! We'll be back...

Great food, nicely presented, consistent with previous visit even this time a Monday evening. Only complaint was the length of interval between courses served and of course the Axbridge limited parking .

The restaurant is lovely as are the staff. We had Sunday lunch which was, on the whole a tasty, hearty meal. The vegetables were excellent. The rice pudding for dessert was especially good. The one negative was the starter - prawn and salmon which was fairly tasteless and needed, at least, some lemon and also more oomph in the sauce. There is a lovely atmosphere which was enhanced by a singer/guitarist who entertained us quietly in the background.

Set in wonderfully historic Axbridge, the Oakhouse is excellent value. The atmosphere is fine, the food, especially the hake, is well prepare and the service efficient and friendly.

The food was excellent, staff were friendly and efficient. The restaurant was warm and beautifully decorated for Christmas. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
