In the 5-star Balmoral Hotel, one of the city’s most exclusive addresses, the acclaimed Number One Restaurant in Edinburgh holds 3 AA Rosettes and a Michelin Star for its blend of Scottish and French flavours. Number One boasts an innovative menu masterminded by award-winning executive chef Jeff Bland, while unique works of art line the impressive designer interior.
Dishes on the Number One menu include Borders roe deer with rainbow chard, hazelnuts and pistachio, fillet of Blairgowrie beef with pearl barley, tenderstem broccoli and bordelaise, and Scottish crab with heirloom tomatoes, black olives and basil.
An extensive themed wine list offers classic and new world vintages, with the knowledgeable Number One sommelier Laurence Jordan happy to offer advice.

Me and my girlfriend were up in Edinburgh for two nights and on the second night we chose to eat here and I must say it was worth every penny. The staff were flawless, the food was outstanding and the whole experience was impeccable. We had the Scottish Beef and Lobster and it was outstanding. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt very well looks after nothing was too much for the staff who were very attentive ad knowledgeable. 5***

Absolutely fantastic evening. Staff could not have been nicer and the food was delicious. We were totally impressed by the vegan 7 course tasting menu provided for one member of the party - exceptional service.

Classic French menu with fresh Scottish ingredients, expertly executed. Menu was good quality without surprises; service staff was knowledgeable about food and cheeses. Sommelier was exceptionally good, offering thoughtful and inteeesting pairing to the tasting menu which I think is a must.

Les plats sont créatifs et excellents et généreux . La carte des vins est originale. Service et accueils impeccables et chaleureux.

Oui, pour l'aspect visuel plus que pour la qualité intrinsèque des mets. L'agneau d'Ecosse est joliment entouré de pois mais il n'est pas tendrisse. Le turbot est bien cuit (un peu trop, même...) mais on saisit mal l'apport d'une huître et d'une langoustine (par ailleurs délicieuses).

As always, No.1 doesn't disappoint. The vegetarian tasting menu was lovely, although having had it before, some of the dishes previously were more to my liking. Missed the cauliflower soup, it was always amazing.
