Number One offers contemporary dining coupled with world class Scottish hospitality. Head Chef Mark Donald and his team have developed a menu with dishes inspired by Scotland and flavoured by the team's international travels.

Occupying a grand and opulent setting within the Balmoral Hotel, Number One offers flawless service with excellent attention to detail, and plush refurbishment of the restaurant by Olga Polizzi. Take a seat on a dove grey wool banquette and sample some of Scotland's most creative dishes.

    Service was very good, and my meal was very good. I talked my wife into the Wagyu beef as she had never had Wagyu. Honestly, in-between the sinew the meat was amazing but the cut had strings all through it and it was not good. I did not believe her complains so I tried myself, not good for what it was supposed to be. Everything else was great but when you spend that kind of money you expect it all to be 5 star.

    Our meal was absolutely delicious. We decided on the 'taster' menu and were not disappointed. The staff were friendly, professional and very knowledgable and the food was different, tasty and full of flavours. The restaurant itself has a relaxed but formal feel to it - a very inviting ambience - and added to a perfect evening of dining. Our meal exceeded expectations.

    Me and my girlfriend were up in Edinburgh for two nights and on the second night we chose to eat here and I must say it was worth every penny. The staff were flawless, the food was outstanding and the whole experience was impeccable. We had the Scottish Beef and Lobster and it was outstanding. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt very well looks after nothing was too much for the staff who were very attentive ad knowledgeable. 5***
