A stylish, modern brasserie in the heart of Belfast, Novelli at City Quays is a refined choice for French and Mediterranean dining. Afternoon teas are also served, and the al fresco terrace is a great choice for when the sun's shining.
The Novelli at City Quays menu offers a diverse taste of the Mediterranean, and includes a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options. There are light starters of local seared scallop with cured salmon belly and parsley root, moving on to succulent choices from the rotisserie like rosemary lamb rump, and roasted chicken. Prix fixe menus are a popular choice for quick meals, and there are dedicated children's dishes on offer as well.
Afternoon teas at Novelli at City Quays in Belfast are filled with beautifully crafted cakes, pastries and sweets, while the savoury options include tastes of the local area, such as smoked Irish salmon, and Kilkenny roast ham.
A bright, airy restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows and modern décor, Novelli at City Quays is a 13-minute walk from Yorkgate Rail Station.

Great location with a nice riverside terrace if you are fortunate enough to get a warm sunny day; nice interior although it still has that ‘newness’ about it.
We were there for Father’s Day basically to have a nosey and try it out. They were only offering a ‘rotisserie’ menu which was a self-serve starter, served main course and a self-serve dessert. Good variety of options on all fronts.
However, the starters could have done with some labelling so that people would know what they were and there could have been some dressings for the salads on hand - nonetheless, very tasty.
I asked the server if the beef was rare and he advised that it was likely to be medium rare - I said that I would have it on that basis which he noted - the beef was well done when it arrived!
My wife had the lamb which was excellent and asked for some mint sauce to be told that they didn’t have any; I got the same response when I asked for English mustard although I was offered wholegrain mustard - would have expected basic condiments to be on hand.
The desserts were excellent and there were two pleasant pastry chefs on hand to explain what they were. Nice little gift for the dads with the bill.
Overall, the restaurant is still working through teething issues and I would expect that the small details will be ironed out in due course - the food is good on the whole and we found the staff to be very pleasant and efficient.
Will definitely go back to try out the a la carte menus and would recommend it to family and friends to ‘give it a go’.

Initially waiting staff were attentive however felt they slacked off once we had eaten, for instance had to ask for the bill twice and then ask for the card machine to pay. Having said that the location is fab and the food delicious! We had the 2 course set menu with complimentary glass of wine weekday offer for £18. Such value for money, good variety of dishes to choose from and unlike some early bird/pre theatre menus generous portions.

Location and setting for the restaurant was excellent. Staff seemed to want to seat us by an open door, rather than offering us any of the free tables, of which there were many as there was only one other couple dining. Food was good, with starters of scallops and the French onion soup more memorable than the mains of rib eye and roast chicken (dry). Service was slow as the numbers on duty seemed predicated on the number of bookings, of which we were told we were the only one - a considerable number of walk ins meant that the few staff who were on ( some were obviously very new) were rushed off their feet and could not be as attentive as i’m sure they would have liked. No complaints about the three staff who seemed to be holding the fort.
Not impressed that I had to pay £3 for the privelege of parking on site

We attended the Dine with Novelli night for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We would definitely go back. The mushroom tortellini starter was amazing and my hubby has requested that I try and recreate it, no pressure there. The food was all well cooked and presented and the staff where very attentive and pleasant. It was great to meet Jean Christophe and he was more than happy to get his picture taken which was a lovely touch

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back. We were celebrating two birthdays and the Management made it a very special occasion with special touches which were very much appreciated. Very friendly staff, and a brilliant table with a view. Thank you Team Novelli!

Ok, lovely starters though I felt that that signature Novelli chicken main dish that I had was overly salty. While the childrens meals were substantial my daughters burger was over cooked and the texture of the burger was too dense. My wife enjoyed the classic Burger and son really enjoyed the fish. Service was slow considering the restaurnt was very quiet and I was offered drinks which subsequently weren't available. Staff were friendly though thin on the ground.

A lovely meal in lovely new restaurant with great views - lack of atmosphere though which was fine for a Weds night but hopefully it is busier at weekends. It felt like a hotel dining room as opposed to a restaurant. Favourite dish was the Tarte Tatin which was the best I have ever eaten :-). Prix Fixe menu is good value with lots of appealing options. Attentive service.

Very modern, good venue, nice food however service staff not overally attentive. E.g they only came over 3 times once to take our drinks order, then food and then eventually to clear.
