No. 31 & No. 35 at The Hempel are tucked away from London's hustle and bustle. Complete with a private Zen Garden, The Hempel offers minimalist-chic and über-cool design by the renowned designer Anouska Hempel.

Regarded by the locals as the area's best kept secret, No. 35 Restaurant appeals to individuals who appreciate good service and honest seasonal cooking by Chef Mike Carter (previously at Michelin-rated Arbutus and the Capital hotel). For a more laidback vibe, No. 31 Lounge Bar is open all day and draws in the crowds with its glam cocktails, fine wines and tempting range of casual cuisine including afternoon tea.

On a light autumn evening, we recommend taking a peep at the beautiful Zen Garden where the final wedding scene between Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant in "Notting Hill" was filmed.

Signature dishes include Pan Fried Scottish Diver Scallops with Smoked Black Pudding and Parsley Cream, Loin of Jurassic Coast Lamb with Baby Artichokes, Aubergine Caviar and Crisp Polenta or Fillet of Wild Seabass with Grilled Asparagus and English Pea & Broad Bean Risotto. Earl Grey Crème Brûlée with Orange Sorbet and Honeycomb Crunch makes for a delicious but supremely light dessert choice.

Queensway, Paddington and Lancaster Gate tube stations are all a 5-minute walk away.

We had dinner at no.35, good deal for high quality food. Only negatives were that waiting staff's level of knowledge was variable (although always pleasant) and despite requesting a vegetarian menu[...]and their advertising one was available we had to leave it in the chef's hands as to what would be presented (and one of the waiting staff pointed out the vegetarian could choose something different for the main course, ignoring the two non-veggie starters). The vegetarian in our party did enjoy her food but probably would not recommend the restaurant for vegetarians as a result of our experience.

In an area mostly dominated by Greek restaurants, No. 35 is a breathe of fresh air: sophisticated, elegant and discreet. I live in the local area and decided to give it a go (for the first time) following my neighbour's recommendation. What a find!. The food was excellent and the service was really attentive[...] The wine isn't cheap but the whole experience is worthy. I cannot wait to come back.

Dinner at 7:45 Saturday evening Had the tasting menu, one the regular and one vegetarian, both were absolutely delicious. I can unreservedly recommend this restaurant to any vegetarian seeking a genuinely top dining experience. The chef produced a stunning dinner that was full of inventiveness and marvellous flavours. He also personally came out to deliver my main course which was a beautifully presented and delicious dish. Overall The Hempel is a lovely place for a high quality delightful dinner.

I originally booked through the Tastecard offer but I couldn't find the card at the last minute. I phoned up and was allowed to change to the £[$] cocktail+tasting menu without any hassle at all. Each course of the tasting menu was very well sized and we were filled to the brim by the end. Food tasted excellent and service was very good as well from John and his team. Would definitely come back again and would recommend to everyone.

We had the Tasting Menu last Monday and were so impressed by the quality of the food. Staff very extremely attentive, they could not have done more for us. The weather allowed us to have a glass of champagne in the famous garden (as seen in Notting Hill) before dinner. What a great evening!.

Excellent food, preceded by a lovely cocktail in the bar, but the service smacked of 'you guys are getting this for a steal so we'll treat you accordingly'. For example, we weren't offered bread (despite there being a side board full of it right next to us); we tried to order the wine flight to accompany our tasting menu but were told it wasn't allowed with the offer; i wanted to keep the menu so that i could read what we were eating - 2 seperate waiters tried to take it away and argued with me about keeping it! The same waiters made a somewhat transparent attempt at engaging in witty chat with us when it came to paying the bill (and leaving a tip). Despite this, the food was delicious.

Three of us went for the [$] Taster Menu offer and for this price it was all pretty good though I may have felt slightly cheated had I paid full price. The food was good in parts and not so good in others. Ambiance is peaceful, sophitcated and relaxed which is nice after a hard day!

The Hempel is an ideal venue for a relaxing evening...The decor is minimal and uncluttered with superb atmospheric lighting...We had a reservation for dinner at 7.30pm and were greeted with a beautifully presented complimentary cocktail of our choice as part of the six course tasting menu deal...After approx 45mins we were shown to our table and I can only say that the six courses which followed were STUNNING...I have eaten in many Michelin star restaurants but I have to say the presentation, flavours and portion sizes were just perfect and the entire meal certainly rates amongst one of the best! First Class!...If I had to voice any negative comment it would have to be the waiting time. This isn't,in any way, a criticism of the front of house staff as they were working very hard and it wasn't a problem, personally, as my son and I were out for a relaxing evening and weren't in a particular hurry...I fully appreciate that producing food of the quality which we were served plus the attention to detail of the presentation takes time!....It was fully appreciated! I would strongly recommend The Hempel...Excellent value, superb food...I'll definitely return and, hopefully, very soon!
