Praised by top critics including Jay Rayner and Grace Dent, Native in Neal’s Yard pairs innovative cooking techniques with a passion for produce, creating a menu of flavour-rich, seasonal dishes. Served in charmingly laidback surrounds, dishes are packed with the country's best wild food that is native to the UK.

From a River Cottage-trained chef, the Native menu showcases natural, foraged and seasonal ingredients. Dishes evolve with the seasons, but starters may include the likes of wild rabbit and prune pastilla with pickled walnut salad, or smoked pollock croquettes with lovage mayo. For mains, discover dishes like venison rack with spiced cabbage and pommes boulangeres, or flame-grilled clams with ham hock broth and homemade sourdough.

Desserts at Native Covent Garden are no less inventive. Joining a classic English cheese board are twists on favourites, such as pain perdu with basil and lemon curd ice cream.

Tucked away in Neal’s Yard, Native restaurant in London is a 3-minute walk from Covent Garden Tube Station.

Really liked the feel and decor of the restaurant, and the staff were excellent. We opted for the tasting menu as it was our visit, and everything was delicious. Hard to pick a favourite, but I really loved the rhubarb dessert and the potato risotto was a real surprise - would never have ordered it as it sounds dull, but it was fabulous!

Had the set menu for £55 which was very tasty from the snacks through to the desert.Consistently high quality with seasonal produce giving very nice surprises and well worth the money my favourite being the king Edward risotto and the mackerel with beetroot.

The pigeon start and deer main were delicious. The restaurant is cosy and intimate so grate for a date night or dinner with close friends. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the waitress read through our bill, rather than showing it to us, so we weren't given the chance to review it before we paid. Left me questioning what we had been charged for.

It was super quiet over lunch, but service and food was amazing. Loved the options on the menu and the fallow deer was especially delicious! Pricey, but excellent. Interesting wine list - but lots of great options on there if you are looking for something different.

We were given the booth (I requested a table away from the toilet after reading another review on tripadvisor) which was very cosy and private. We had an aperitif before dinner, 2 glasses of prosecco and 2 Native GT's. Not sure what was so native about the GT's because it tasted just as always. We found the food very good, very beautifully presented and delicious. No faults there. The wine was very good and affordable. I love the fact Native has a very short menu and you basically choose either a 2-course fixed price menu or 3- course. It is possible to order extra sides with the main. The bread we recieved before our starters was absolutely amazing. We would have loved the possibilty of a cheese platter (Native is referring to Neal's Yard cheeses on their menu, but strangely enough they didn't have any) after our main though. The petit fours sounded delish, but after reading a review on tripadvisor saying they were ridiculously small we decided not to order them.
The staff was friendly, correct and very accomodating, no criticism there. What let us down in this overall dining experience is how the venue looked and how spaces were presented. I don't mind the shabby chic and basic look in general, everything was just a bit too dirty, sticky, dusty for me (not the glasses, cutlery and plates, those were clean and shiny). While walking down the stairs the steps felt sticky under my feet and also the railing felt sticky when holding it.
The open kitchen is clean no doubt, but it just looks a bit too dated and therefor dirty and just doesn't make a very good impression when entering. The toilet is not great. It wasn't really dirty upon first sight, it just felt dirty. I'm maybe picky here, but when you have a bottle of Neal's Yard hand soap at the sink I am expecting the luxury, nice smell and substance of a Neal's Yard hand soap. Don't keep the bottle and refill it with an ordinary soap. The overall feel and look of Native just didn't give me a nice clean feel.
