Boasting a stunning 92-foot high location at the top of the National Portrait Gallery, the National Portrait Restaurant delivers modern European cuisine. Simple yet elegant presentation mirrors the beauty of the National Portrait Gallery beneath, and the panoramic London vista outside.

Served on level 3 of the National Portrait Gallery, The Portrait Restaurant menu features seasonally evolving dishes using produces from local suppliers. A la carte options feature grilled bream fillet with potted shrimp butter, spelt risotto with lemon mascarpone, and chargrilled Hereford rib eye beef with hand-cut chips, béarnaise and watercress.

Afternoon tea is a colourful menagerie of inventive creations. Pistachio éclair with praline grains and salt beef and sweet mustard sandwiches can be enjoyed with hand-roasted coffee or loose leaf teas. An extensive selection of New World and French wines can be enjoyed whilst taking in the breath-taking London skyline from the Portrait Bar.

With views stretching from Trafalgar Square to the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and the London Eye, The National Portrait Gallery is a 3-minute walk from Leicester Square Station.

Afternoon Tea was a fun experience. The food was ok, nothing special, but not bad. The tea was very good. The views were amazing, but the staff was the star of the show. Thanks for a great start to our holiday.

Staff helpful and attentive. Food excellent. Tea too weak.

It's was present, food was good but average
All the waiters were flamboyant and worked towards impressing the middle aged ladies, all the staff were French, being a British museum I would have like to have see. Some English staff
The service charge was over charged and when asked to removed it the manager came asked if there was a problem

Good location at top of Portrait gallery on Trafalgar Sq with rooftop views and contemporary décor and furnishings. If you are a Tourist visiting this will be a good choice and a little different from the vast array of street-side restaurants in the vicinity and afterwards (or even before) you are only just above the Galleries for a long stroll around. Food not pretentious but does border on Fine Dining. Variety of house cocktails and known Wines. More Choices of Fish and Veg dishes than most Restaurants. Good ratio of Servers to clients and attentiveness abounds.

Noise level is very loud. They forgot to bring the bread. Main course was delicious but when you add vegetables takes the price up to over £30. Lunch with a glass of wine, some water and one coffee £45 a head. Could have gone to the Wolseley for same price.............
