One of the oldest French restaurants in London, 2 AA Rosette award-winning Mon Plaisir on Monmouth Street has been serving delectable French cuisine for over half a century.

Decorated in French artefacts, Mon Plaisir - London resonates with a nostalgic atmosphere of decadent France throughout its 4 individual dining rooms. Mon Plaisir also features a pewter topped bar which once graced the lounge of a Lyonnaise brothel.

Mon Plaisir Covent Garden continues to serve traditional cuisine created from the finest French ingredients and carefully prepared by the restaurant’s highly skilled chefs. Signature dishes include snails in garlic and parsley butter and the fillet of sea bream with mustard sauce, exuding a real French flair. There is also a slick wine list which predominantly features fine French wines.

With its fine French food and authentic ambience, Mon Plaisir is just a 7-minute walk from Covent Garden Tube Station. Mon Plaisir has been acknowledged in fine restaurant guides, including Hardens, Square Meal, Via Michelin and The Good Food Guide.

We dine at Mon Plaisir several times a year and always enjoy both the ambience and food. I booked a table for three and asked for it to be in a quiet corner. We were given the table just by the entrance overlooking the street. I nearly protested but discovered that it actually met our requirements well. It was away from the buzz of the main dining areas and from time to time we were entertained by the activity in the street. We were there for lunch. At night one would be rather on show to passers by which might not appeal to everyone.
We took the two course lunch menu and then added some extra items including greedier desserts and vegetables. This proved a good approach giving us plenty to eat and avoiding the weightier main courses. Our waiter was helpful and made a good suggestion for wine. We had a lot to talk about and we were never hassled. We must have spent about 3 hours over our meal.

My starter of the Smoked Duck, gizzard and bacon salad was delightful - absolutely delicious - great flavors and prepared perfectly , my mains of Mussels cooked in White wine and served with Chips was just OK , it lacked that French touch - too much cream not enough flavor of the mussels, wine or any garlic, nothing jumping out - chips were just that - fries with nothing special about them - overall I was happy. My Wife however had the Traditional French Onion Soup, this was nothing to write home about - not great bearing it mind its a delicate dish the flavors were lacking - far too much cheese not enough oniony flavor , her main was very disappointing the Beef Strip Loin with Chips, the first one was very overcooked after requesting a medium - the second was only just acceptable but very chewy - for desert we shared a Mousse au Chocolat - this was basically an uncooked chocolate cake mix - clearly made on the premises which is a good start but lacked that light texture you expect from a mousse. For what we spent it was an average experience , one we are glad we tried but will not book again - I am sure its because they were so busy but quantity should not overcome quality - waitress was lovely , wine was very nice - lovely little place - maybe concentrate of better quality food than numbers of people through door

Generally a very nice atmosphere. Staff efficient and polite. The set menu was well priced, however, the main course was not very hot and the plates were cold.
