One of the oldest French restaurants in London, 2 AA Rosette award-winning Mon Plaisir on Monmouth Street has been serving delectable French cuisine for over half a century.

Decorated in French artefacts, Mon Plaisir - London resonates with a nostalgic atmosphere of decadent France throughout its 4 individual dining rooms. Mon Plaisir also features a pewter topped bar which once graced the lounge of a Lyonnaise brothel.

Mon Plaisir Covent Garden continues to serve traditional cuisine created from the finest French ingredients and carefully prepared by the restaurant’s highly skilled chefs. Signature dishes include snails in garlic and parsley butter and the fillet of sea bream with mustard sauce, exuding a real French flair. There is also a slick wine list which predominantly features fine French wines.

With its fine French food and authentic ambience, Mon Plaisir is just a 7-minute walk from Covent Garden Tube Station. Mon Plaisir has been acknowledged in fine restaurant guides, including Hardens, Square Meal, Via Michelin and The Good Food Guide.

It was indeed a pleasure to return to Mon Plaisir after a gap of too many years. The atmosphere and service are kind of a charming time warp (in a positive sense) and although the food produced in the kitchen is not innovative compared to many of the newer French restaurants in London, it is good enough when combined with the delightful atmosphere to encourage me to come back soon.

Had a great time - yet again! Merci!

Hit and miss. At £75 per person I’d have expected something a bit better. Main was chicken breast, which was good, if not amazing. Steak tartare starter was very bland, which isn’t what you want from a French restaurant. Wine list was good, but a little on the pricey side. The best part about the restaurant was the relaxing and congenial atmosphere - staff were very friendly and helpful.

We booked a table for a pre-theatre dinner, with a limited time available to us. The location, near our theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue, and the timing of the pre-theatre menu (5.30-7.00 pm) suited us very well, as we had to be in the theatre by 7 pm. The service was friendly and very efficient; the pre-theatre 3-course menu was, understandably, limited, but we all had dishes which, while fairly simple, were well-cooked and tasty. The price, for a London restaurant in this area, was very reasonable. The restaurant obviously takes the needs of pre-theatre customers seriously, and served us very promptly and efficiently, which relieved us of the tension you often get when dining before a theatre performance. We chose a bottle of Muscadet, which was very acceptable. We obviously can't comment on the much wider à la carte menu, but it looked good, and the dining area was cosy and pleasant. The whole experience was enjoyable, and the dining arrangement worked perfectly for us.

Great location for the theatre and good value for money. The staff were very attentive and made sure we were out in time for our show!
