Set in a beautiful Tudor building, known locally as The Bull, near the Lea Valley Trail, Miller & Carter – Wheathampstead sources its succulent, 28-day aged steaks from sustainable British farms & cooks them to your taste. With a sizeable terrace for lazy, sun-drenched dining in mild weather, and views of the river, the steakhouse enjoys an informal, laid-back atmosphere.

The Miller & Carter menu is led by hand-cut, 30-day aged steaks, all carefully sourced from sustainable British & Irish farms, and expertly cooked. Favourite cuts span from a deliciously tender grain-fed sirloin, aged for 50 days for a rich, buttery flavour, to a luxurious sharing chateaubriand. Other Miller & Carter signature dishes include smoky barbecue ribs with seasoned fries & dressed slaw, and lemon & rosemary lamb rump served with dauphinoise potatoes, sautéed exotic mushrooms & tenderstem broccoli.

To finish, sweet indulgences include Miller’s chocolate orange: a shimmering golden globe with ganache and orange toffee. The Miller & Carter cellar is brimming with drinks designed to complement the menu, including chilled draught and bottled beers, crafted cocktails and an impressive wine list of rich reds and sparkling wines.

Miller & Carter – Wheathampstead in St Albans is a 10-minute drive from Harpenden Rail Station.

VERY NOISY, TOO MANY TABLES PACKED IN

  • (((** 24 October 2017 by Debbie from WELWYN GARDEN CITY

Was left waiting at booking desk for approx 15 minutes before being acknowledged then left another 10 minutes before being shown to our table by (I assume) the manager . Walked us to the table and then promptly walked away mumbling about something. Possibly carvery or wine. Jordan our waiter was absolutely fantastic and more than made up for any rudeness. Adjacent table were not happy with their meal so we were a little apprehensive. However, other than my starter being a little "end of the bag" remnants calamari, I must admit, my partners starter was delicious. The steak was perfectly cooked, I would recommend tasting before seasoning yourself though as I ended up having a salty steak. The salad wedge with bacon and a ranch dressing was to die for.

Again very slow in getting our food. From taking our order to eventually being able to eat took 105 minutes!!! This isn't good enough when you are charging
£25 for a steak. We had only ordered mains between 8 of us and even then we got salmon instead of seabass!!!!! You need to get this sorted this is the second time this has happened?

I thought the restaurant was absolutely brilliant. The food and service was first class. My son took me out for a meal as it was 6 months since my husband passed away and I needed cheering up. I would have no hesitation in recommending you.

After a slight hiccup with the fish and chips
The original portion could have been for a child and not a man. After it was replaced we had a very enjoyable evening
We were not rushed to choose our food or to pay the bill.

Every time we visit your restaurant we have great hopes that we wouldn't have to moan or complain about anything.
Last night was no exception. We were waiting 5 mins for someone to acknowledge us when we had arrived at reception. The restaurant bar was an absolute mess and at least 3 staff were behind there. We were finally seated. We waited at least10 mins for our drinks and when we got them there was lipstick around the rim of the wine glass clearly visible which was sent back.
Staff seemed unmotivated and especially the duty manager guy. There seem to be lots of staff on show but working at such a snails pace they wouldn't last 2 mins in a beefeater.
After our meal we ordered coffees one of which was a cappachino but that didn't arrive a filter coffee came so that was sent back and the correct one brought.
Your saving grace is the food there which is why we come back each time.
It would be so lovely to visit and all aspects of what could be an absolutely excellent restaurant where in place.
Will we come back again - I'm not sure.
