Set in a beautiful Tudor building, known locally as The Bull, near the Lea Valley Trail, Miller & Carter – Wheathampstead sources its succulent, 28-day aged steaks from sustainable British farms & cooks them to your taste. With a sizeable terrace for lazy, sun-drenched dining in mild weather, and views of the river, the steakhouse enjoys an informal, laid-back atmosphere.
The Miller & Carter menu is led by hand-cut, 30-day aged steaks, all carefully sourced from sustainable British & Irish farms, and expertly cooked. Favourite cuts span from a deliciously tender grain-fed sirloin, aged for 50 days for a rich, buttery flavour, to a luxurious sharing chateaubriand. Other Miller & Carter signature dishes include smoky barbecue ribs with seasoned fries & dressed slaw, and lemon & rosemary lamb rump served with dauphinoise potatoes, sautéed exotic mushrooms & tenderstem broccoli.
To finish, sweet indulgences include Miller’s chocolate orange: a shimmering golden globe with ganache and orange toffee. The Miller & Carter cellar is brimming with drinks designed to complement the menu, including chilled draught and bottled beers, crafted cocktails and an impressive wine list of rich reds and sparkling wines.
Miller & Carter – Wheathampstead in St Albans is a 10-minute drive from Harpenden Rail Station.

I had lunch with a friend at The Bull in Wheathampstead. Our table was fantastic overlooking the river which was extremely relaxing. The service was excellent and the waitress was very attentive. I had the chicken with cheese and a bbq marinade which was fantastic. The presentation of the food was of a very high standard and the desserts were to die for.

Nice restaurant but lacklustre service, meal ok but not as good as prices lead you to expect

My friend ordered a glass of Merlot which had sediment floating on it, this was quickly changed, unfortunately the second glass also had sediment. We ordered two 50 day fillet Steaks, mine was not as tasty as usual and my friends was full of gristle. When the bill came we were charged for one 50 day and one ordinary fillet, the wine was not charged for but actually we felt the inedible steak should have been taken off the bill too. The final icing on the cake was no toilet paper in the ladies toilet.

We attended the restaurant for a 35th Birthday following a number of recommendations from friends. On arrival the restaurant looked nice and we were welcomed by two waitresses. Our drinks order was taken quickly and non-alcoholic cocktails nice and reasonably priced.
We ordered our starters which again came promptly and all of the party were happy with them. Unfortunately things went wrong from here on in. The restaurant was extremely cold so did not help the situation, two members of our party had to sit at the table in coats.
The sides to accompany our mains arrived but the actual dish didn't for another 20/25mins after this. When they arrived 8 of the 10 meals were stone cold and had clearly been sat on a side in the kitchen for some time as they weren't even warm. Some of the dishes were missing items. When we queried it with the waitress she did not appear surprised, became quite embarrassed and couldn't walk away quick enough.
I asked to see the Manager who again took some time to come over and speak to us.
In the end we refused to pay for any of the meal and left. This is the first time I have ever left a restaurant in this manner. We were extremely disappointed as the restaurant was not particularly local. Whilst the Manager claimed there was a problem in the kitchen it did not seem to prevent them continuing to serve food to others. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but filling up by the time we left. It was clearly understaffed and those that were there did not seem able to provide an acceptable level of customer service. -

Food out of this world as always. Waitress was rude and unhelpful at the beginning of our meal (to the point where we would have left had it not been xmas eve) but then warmed up as the night went on.
