Restaurant description

Featured in The Good Food Guide, Michelin Guide and Winner of Best Dining Pub in Devon in the Good Pub Guide, The Millbrook Inn, South Pool is a 16th-century village pub with a roaring open fireplace for winter nights and a riverside terrace for sunny afternoons. The emphasis is truly on local produce, with whole side of pork, braces of pheasant and fresh fish delivered directly by the farmer, gamekeeper and fishermen from the areas surrounding the pub.

The Millbrook Inn menu features creative interpretations of traditional local flavours to offer an unpretentious menu that honours the Devon heritage and its people, brought to life by the Canadian head chef Iain Dawson. To start, try a smoked and candied beetroot salad with goat's cheese foam and black olive soil or the lavish scallops in a beef butter. Mains include the butcher block's cut of the day or the day's catch with chorizo cassoulet, and a kale and watercress salad. Amongst the flavoursome desserts are chestnut crème brûlée with espresso ganache, and a millionaire slice, served with Guinness ice cream.

Popular as both a proper locals pub and a destination restaurant that pays homage to the county, The Millbrook Inn in Devon serves regional ales and world wines from its cosy bar. The pub also hosts regular live music nights.

In the heart of the beautiful Devon countryside, Millbrook Inn, South Pool is 10 minutes' by boat from Salcombe or a 30-minute drive from Dartmouth.

One of our favourite pubs to walk to from Salcombe and lunch did not disappoint - we only chose the soup and half a sandwich but lovely creamy mushroom soup and a great beef sandwich. Superb, cosy atmosphere and good choice of beers.

We visited the Millbrook Inn on a cold and windy Sunday afternoon after a long journey to Devon. We found a very warm welcome, a lovely open fire and excellent food. The roast chicken dinner was just delicious. I’d certainly recommend you stop here.

Friendly greeting and made to feel very welcome. Lovely old pub with great ambience. All staff were attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and we were looked after so well, all was very efficient. The food was delicious and all freshly cooked to order and good to know all was sourced locally. We met the general manager and chef all who clearly have a passion for what they do. A real hidden gem that we are so pleased to have found and can’t wait to go back.

A lovely pub and lovely food. We used the pub just for drinks in the week and then went to dinner on Friday. The staff were so accommodating considering one of us was a pure veggie. Fish cooked to perfection and side dishes of kale and broccoli ( which had been steamed and griddled!) were delicious. Only improvement could be to have a few more vegetarian options that were not salad, as such on the menu. Thank you

Disappointing Scallops 2 small specimens very overcooked Hake main dish also overcooked Cheese board - very unmemorable Bread - cardboard rolls probably part baked variety, Rubbish Also booked online for 14.45 Sunday lunch on the 29th Dec (a few weeks before) to then be called the day before saying lunch finished at 14.00 looks like the chef wanted the afternoon off, I told them to cancel Our experience was far from the promise and write ups Chef needs a wake up call perhaps management should be more visible to ensure standards meet the claims

Probably the worst dish I have ever had. Pork stroganoff was shell pasta,2small lumps of meat,a couple of mushrooms and a load of grated cheese melted to make a sludge. Diet Coca Cola as requested was some cheap on tap cola Salted caramel ice cream was non existent

What a wonderful place. A gorgeous proper old style country pub with oodles of character serving really top notch food, and the kind of service that you dont get very often. We will definitely be coming back.
