Excellent food, very nicely presented. The menu is not long (around 4 choices per course) but is well thought out and changes on a regular basis. Between us we had three of the starters, three of the mains and three of the desserts. All were delicious.

A charming modern independent bistro, Milkwood champions traditional and contemporary Welsh cuisine. With a simple colour scheme of dark leathers, polished woods and white walls, this is a casual, inviting setting to enjoy tastes of the local area.

The Milkwood menu focuses on Welsh recipes, but with bold, inventive tweaks. Start off with fresh seafood flavours, with the smoked eel salad with nasturtium and horseradish, moving on to spring lamb cutlets with salsa and aubergine. Game delicacies include the spiced quail with hummus, and there are vegetarian options such as homemade tagliatelle with summer truffle.

A selection of dessert wines at Milkwood in Cardiff are perfect to round off a meal, or indulge in one of the puddings, with choices including rhubarb with buttermilk junket and fennel granite. There is also a polished wine list to choose from, with bottles from around Europe.

Milkwood is a cosy space to enjoy modern Welsh recipes, and sits a stone's throw from the green open spaces of Portcanna Fields. Ninian Park Rail Station is a 6-minute drive away.

I'd heard lots of great things about Milkwood and it certainly lived up to expectations. Everything was cooked to perfection using the best in season ingredients and the vegetarian option was delicious and different. I could have ordered any of the menu choices, it all sounded delicious. The desserts were also fabulous. We'll certainly be returning. Service was very friendly and efficient.

This was my first time at Milkwood but based on this experience not the last! I took my ex-boss and friend of nearly twenty years to lunch. She had made the trip from the US specially. From the moment we sat down it was brilliant. The afternoon passed in a breeze as we reminisced about old times and new! the food was lovely - full of local ingredients and flavour. The service was attentive and unobtrusive - it hot the right note for a relaxed lunch. The menu and wine list are compact but of exceptional quality. Milkwood is that rare breed of restaurant that delivers such high quality cuisine yet has the personality of a friendly local. If only more restaurants in Cardiff could capture the simplicity, excellence and friendliness like they have at Milkwood. Possibly the nicest dining experience I have had in Cardiff. May Milkwood long prosper!

We dined on a Tuesday evening at 7pm as a party of 4 to celebrate our son's 30th birthday. The ambience, service and food were all first class. An excellent wine accompanied one of the best meals the four of us have ever had, beating a number of Michelin restaurants I would add. Well done Gwyn, Tom and all your team for delivering yet another excellent culinary venue in Cardiff. Diolch.

The restaurant was close to our stay and had a neighborhood vibe. The waiter was friendly and helpful. The pork belly was delicious but the dessert was incredible after a hot day at St. Fagans.

Our first visit and - wow - it was more than we could have expected. To use an overworked phrase this was truly fine dining, in an informal but elegant space, served by welcoming, attentive and friendly staff. The menu changes fairly regularly so I won't go into much detail about the individual dishes but the menu on our night out offered a great choice, using fine ingredients. An 'amuse bouche' certainly amused and a Campari sorbet ended the show perfectly. The wine list was great and offered some lovely dessert wines. I've seen Milkwood described as a 'Bistro' but this doesn't do it justice - it's up their with the best restaurants not only in Wales but around the UK and Europe, and we've been to a few. The plates put in front of us were clearly created with love and a passion for really good cooking - nothing throw away about it. You just have to go to experience it. And it's not often we can say this but the front of house manager / waiter Andrew, the 'maître d'hôtel' or 'master of the house' (the only way to describe him!) added to the whole dining experience. The only off-putting thing was the sight of two ladies next to us accompanying this wonderful food with… Coca Cola! No accounting for taste.

Six girlies had an EXCELLENT supper at Milkwood - it was the first visit for each of us and the consensus is that we will be returning!
