Restaurant description

Championing the best of the Scottish larder, Michael Neave Kitchen and Whisky Bar offers creations from one of Scotland’s most promising young chefs: named runner-up of Young Scottish Chef of the Year. Offsetting the rich, luxurious menu, a sleek minimalist dining room is set over 2 floors.

A finalist in Young Chef of the Year 2010, Neave brings innate passion and flair to his menu. Sourcing the finest produce from the Scottish countryside, enjoy dishes like Perthshire roe deer with carrot & lavender purée, or North Berwick lobster & crab ravioli. Elegant twists for dessert include Victoria plum soufflé with pistachio biscotti.

As well as a knowledgeably compiled wine list, Michael Neave restaurant in Edinburgh offers an excellent selection of whiskies, rare gins and estate rums. Guests can also enjoy drinks out on the champagne terrace during warmer weather.

    We had a beautiful meal here. Our experience started off with a friendly welcome from the barman who took out coats and was more than happy to accommodate us - making a choice of non alcoholic cocktails which weren't on the menu, and assisting us with details of the menu. The menu had a wide variety of options which made it hard to choose! We had salmon ravioli, scallops, guinea fowl & cod - all presented beautifully and tasted delicious. Also the yoghurt mousse for dessert was amazing! Nice little touches during the meal was the selection of breads for appetiser and little fudge & truffles with the bill. Delicious food at a very reasonable price! Great service & lovely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend and will be back if in Edinburgh again soon!

    Amazing! The best dining of our lives. My dessert had a hygiene error, and the staff were so kind they offered both of us free drinks as an apology. We were seriously impressed. I loved the Scotch on the menu, particularly the Dalmore collection available. Apart from the error, it was the best meal we've ever had. It was absolutely fantastic. I'm only rating the location down by a single star with it being down an alleyway, and since we don't know Edinburgh too well, we weren't sure what to expect.

    It’s just a wonderful experience from the ambiance, excellent staff and the quality of food is outstanding. I had barley risotto with my fish. Never had it before it was fantastic.

    Party of two. We chose from a la carte menu. We had 3 courses, none the same, and every plate was fantastic. I had scallops and black pudding followed by cod fillet with chorizo and crayfish risotto. My partner had goats cheese followed by lamb. The two desserts were fabulous. Staff were very friendly and professional. Extremely good value for money. The whisky bar is situated upstairs, the restaurant downstairs. The decor of the restaurant had a very modern but retro 60’s look to me which I thoroughly loved. I also loved the location, down a very intimate passageway off the Royal Mile. We would definitely visit again upon returning to Edinburgh.

    This was a phenomenal meal. Better than any in Scotland. The food was incredible, while the atmosphere was the opposite of fussy.
