We are always impressed with the lunch menu - particularly at weekends. The food is well cooked and presented, the staff are attentive and helpful and it is always hard to decide which of the delicious wines to have. We have introduced several friends to the restaurant and they are always impressed and amazed at the great value for money!

Best value in the Old Town for lunch - 2 courses and also tea/coffee and chocolate brownie all for £10 . Plus central location, not lovely restaurant & pleasant friendly staff. Fridays are busy and so a bit noisy. We went on a Monday this week for the first time & it was quiet & peaceful, however it is on a short but very steep hill so not good for anyone with walking difficulties

A friend and I enjoyed the 'Express Lunch' in which diners are offered a choice of three starters and three main courses followed by filter coffee and a chocolate brownie for £9.95 - excellent value considering the exceptionally good quality of the food served by friendly and efficient staff. I've eaten lunch there twice and the quality has been very good on both occasions. I'm looking forward now to being there for dinner. I should add that the 'Express Lunch' is served at a leisurely pace, ie, not rushed, and the 'express' comes in with the option of taking the filter coffee and brownie as a take away.

Well worth a visit, quirky location, food delicious & service excellent. Lunchtime menu is superb value for money with good menu choice. The only slight negative feedback from the 2 men in the group was the main course portion size however not sure you can expect anymore for the money along with the quality and service. Would definitely go back & recommend to friends.

I go for lunch to Michael Neave on a fairly regular basis because the express lunch is secind to none. Where else in the Capital could you eat what is technically a 3 course meal for under £10. Each course is always inventive, beautifully presented and tasty. There is always a coice of starters and main courses, but you can always ask for the mean menu if what is presented on the day is not for you.
There is an extensive wine list to choose from.
What I appreciat most is the fact that you are not rushed from your table. Once you have booked, you can chat at leisure.

It was our last evening in Edinburgh. Yes. The best comes in the end and so it was. We had reserved for 6 people (I would always suggest a reservation). Very friendly welcome, a large table decorated with candles and flowers. We loved the food and the wine list. The food is really special. I have not eaten "venison saddle" for a long time, but this one was probably the best of my life. The service was friendly and fast. We were all very satisfied and will gladly come back.

As usual the food was delicious. Although the special lunch menu is limited there’s always something for everyone. It may however be good to include more specific ingredients. My friend has an intolerance to cream and the waiter did not seem clear as to whether there was cream in the risotto. As a result she had to leave it which was a shame as it was delicious.

We had a fantastic evening. The food was excellent, particularly the sirloin steak and sticky toffee souffle. The staff were very friendly and professional. The wine we selected was not available but the waiter was really helpful and helped us choose an alternative (which we very much enjoyed). There was a bit of a wait for the food but the staff apologised and made sure we had enough drinks etc so the wait was not an issue.
