Sitting behind the village green and next to the village pond, Merlin’s Cave Chalfont St Giles is a 17th-century pub serving classic dishes with modern twists. The venue boasts a scenic garden for warmer weather, whilst inside, the restaurant sits behind the traditional and cosy bar area.
The Merlin’s Cave menu blends British pub favourites with Mediterranean flavours. Discover the chef’s own duck dumplings and salmon and dill fish cakes, or from the grill, try the indulgent burger stack, or a fillet steak with hand-cut chips. Flavour-rich vegetarian options include grilled aubergine with ratatouille and goats’ cheese, and stuffed courgettes with spinach, pine nuts, creamed leeks and a roasted red pepper sauce.
The Merlin’s Cave bar offers a range of real ales, lagers and bottled beers as well as an impressive selection of world wines. Mixing rustic furniture with modern industrial décor, the restaurant adds a contemporary feel to the building’s rustic charm.
A charming country pub, Merlin’s Cave in Buckinghamshire is a short stroll from the historic cottage and museum of author John Milton. The market town of Amersham and its tube station are a 5-minute drive away.

Lovely pub, really love the decor and ambiance. Menu was good although as someone on a diet there really wasn't very much on there that was diet friendly. I had the vegetarian sharing platter which was delicious but probably waaaay over my calories for the day! Could you put a nice gourmet salad on the menu? Waitress was friendly and efficient. My colleague asked if the bread on her fish finger sandwich could be cut more thinly and less of a doorstep, however a massive doorstep arrived - it was a lot of bread! We will definitely come back again....especially if you start doing diet friendly food! Maybe cut the bread a bit thinner!

We have had mixed experiences at Merlins, but last night the service and food were pretty good. Not vast portions but the fish and chips were very good. Not cheap

Good menu, good quality food, we loved the sharing platters for starter - pulled pork nachos particularly! All dishes good!

Lovely place, great atmosphere. The young man who served was more than helpful. The food very good and excellent sized portions especially the panetonne bread and butter pudding. However resented having our dishes whipped away within no time of having finished our food. It struck me that there was a rush to get rid of us!!!

a nice restaurant with good food. We both had the roast which was very nice but the veg was a bit undercooked. The service was ok but they seemed very rushed and short staffed
