Sitting on the beautiful village green with a beer garden looking out across the Buckinghamshire countryside, Merlins Cave is a character-packed country pub which dates back to the 17th century. A fresh modern twist is added to the classics on the food menu, with a host of cask beers and fine wines also on offer.

The food was excellent, we had the 3 courses for £15 and each course tasted great, was well presented and a decent sized portion. The pub has a great atmosphere and the guy that served us was really attentive and polite.

Friendly, efficient staff but rather slow to put a stop to over-exuberant small children playing 'chase' around the restaurant! Probably lack of parental supervision and a complete lack of consideration for other diners, little recognition that Merlin's Cave at about 21:00 hrs is an adult venue not a kindergarten. Lamb rump very good but Sirloin steak requested medium rare delivered overdone and disappointing at the price. And how can you run a restaurant without limes behind the bar, when you advertise a 'range of different gins'? Doh!

Contrary to other peoples comments the service at Merlins Cave was good. However there is no centre point in the restaurant to check in so you just wander in and hope to find someone. The restaurant was not busy at 7:00pm and most tables had not been set. The menu card is almost unreadable the print having worn off the page and food was ok but not good. I would describe it as ok pub food at restaurant prices. This restaurant will have to improve before I return.

Disappointing as service was slow some food fine but some missing promised flavours but bad managing as they wouldn't honour wine vouchers previously given. Gave long instructions on how to use them next time but the cards said 'a free glass of wine on your next visit ' with no other information for the customer. The manager should have used his discretion .

Slow service overall but nice staff when they attended us.
Food was ok....but for the price i expected better quality meat.
    Very neat laid out venue

Absolute rubbish after standing by the restaurant check in bit for the best part of 15 minutes and being totally ignored. Not even a we will be with you in a minute by 4 different staff. So we left and found another place to eat. The service wasn't the best last time we went there,But you try and give everyone the benefit of doubt so we went back again. What a waste of fuel, wont be making that mistake again.

Nice food but very poor and slow service. Expensive for the experience we had.

Great food and atmosphere, perfect for a summer day visit especially in the garden. Lovely decor which adds to the experience.

Lovely decor, slow service had to wait 30 mins for drinks to arrive, food was good but stick pub classics as duck confit was over cooked for my taste
