Sitting behind the village green and next to the village pond, Merlin’s Cave Chalfont St Giles is a 17th-century pub serving classic dishes with modern twists. The venue boasts a scenic garden for warmer weather, whilst inside, the restaurant sits behind the traditional and cosy bar area.

The Merlin’s Cave menu blends British pub favourites with Mediterranean flavours. Discover the chef’s own duck dumplings and salmon and dill fish cakes, or from the grill, try the indulgent burger stack, or a fillet steak with hand-cut chips. Flavour-rich vegetarian options include grilled aubergine with ratatouille and goats’ cheese, and stuffed courgettes with spinach, pine nuts, creamed leeks and a roasted red pepper sauce.

The Merlin’s Cave bar offers a range of real ales, lagers and bottled beers as well as an impressive selection of world wines. Mixing rustic furniture with modern industrial décor, the restaurant adds a contemporary feel to the building’s rustic charm.

A charming country pub, Merlin’s Cave in Buckinghamshire is a short stroll from the historic cottage and museum of author John Milton. The market town of Amersham and its tube station are a 5-minute drive away.

Disappointing as service was slow some food fine but some missing promised flavours but bad managing as they wouldn't honour wine vouchers previously given. Gave long instructions on how to use them next time but the cards said 'a free glass of wine on your next visit ' with no other information for the customer. The manager should have used his discretion .

Slow service overall but nice staff when they attended us.
Food was ok....but for the price i expected better quality meat.
    Very neat laid out venue

Absolute rubbish after standing by the restaurant check in bit for the best part of 15 minutes and being totally ignored. Not even a we will be with you in a minute by 4 different staff. So we left and found another place to eat. The service wasn't the best last time we went there,But you try and give everyone the benefit of doubt so we went back again. What a waste of fuel, wont be making that mistake again.

Nice food but very poor and slow service. Expensive for the experience we had.

Great food and atmosphere, perfect for a summer day visit especially in the garden. Lovely decor which adds to the experience.

Lovely decor, slow service had to wait 30 mins for drinks to arrive, food was good but stick pub classics as duck confit was over cooked for my taste

Overall good service but had to go ask for menus after about 10 mins or so sitting there. Food was good, steak cooked well. Generous cheeseboard.

The food is well thought out and presented. The pub has a decent range of good ales. It gets busy on the weekend but that contributes to an enjoyable atmosphere. Merlin's Cave also has a sizeable garden out the back which is great for those warm, sunny days.

Quality of food good but steaks slightly overdone (medium rare was more like medium, & medium more like well done). Service was slow but we were in no hurry. Nice ambience but a little bit pricey.
