Restaurant description

One of Soho's most sought-after destinations, Mele e Pere blends Italian gastronomy and an on-trend setting. Retro Anglepoise wall lamps and an apothecary-style bar lend an old-school vibe, and the dining room features quirky retro design throughout.

Heading the kitchen, Andrea Mantovani offers a playful mix of classic and modern trattoria dishes. A daily-changing selection ensures optimum freshness, with Mele e Pere menu favourites including braised rabbit with polenta, or gnocchi with mussels and clams. Eclectic artisanal sharing plates are also offered at Mele e Pere in London.

Perfectly in tune with the edginess and vibrancy of Soho, basement bar dwellers can sample Mele e Pere restaurant’s homemade vermouth for a traditional Italian tipple. A lengthy list of Italian wines complements the rustic, natural flavours.

Translating as ‘apples and pears’, Mele e Pere in Soho brings a quirky yet refined eatery to one of London’s liveliest areas. Piccadilly Circus Tube Station is a 4-minute walk away.

Friendly welcome, tap water brought to the table immediately which I like, great cocktails. Food was ok, no more, so I think I would go back for a drink but not to eat.

As always a fantastic place to come to. Generous portions, reasonably priced, wonderful service. The staff go above and beyond. I ordered sea bream and tiramsu dessert. Both fab!! I also ordered a side of potatoes/chips but they were very dry. When the waitress asked why we hadn’t eaten them we told her, she agreed and took them off our bill with no fuss. Just a very minor point, get some vegetarian parmesan!!

We were made to feel very welcome. The food was tasty and excellent value. Wine very reasonable. Pasta was homemade.Service very friendly and attentive. For example we asked if the music could be turned down and Micko immediately did this. Nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely go there again.

So we LOVED one of the waiters (Pietro from Positano) he was so genuine and yes I’m biased because he congratulated my Italian pronunciation but it was nice, he engaged in conversation with us without being too overbearing. The burrata was the main reason I picked this restaurant, I knew I wanted the burrata to start and it did not disappoint. It was delicious and accompanied with the perfect flavours. The ragù for main was a huge portion I couldn’t even finish but the tagliatelle was cooked to perfection. The tiramisu-I didn’t like to ask about but it was either so fresh that the alcohol hadn’t had time to soak through the layers or it was store bought (my partner thought this, I don’t believe an Italian restaurant would do that but we are still divided on the matter). I LOVE drinking Prosecco and was really looking forward to it, however, from the tap??- it wasn’t nice, a real shame when even a cheap bottle from the local supermarket is tasty enough! Overall though, loved the decor, the place had a great feel and we even spent most of the evening talking about wanting to buy it and turn it into a big studio apartment, really cool vibe, bar area was awesome and it all just felt suitable for any occasion. Big fans, would return, but would maybe sample some other wines.

We love the vermouth bar downstairs and typically arrive early to sample another of the huge range on offer. The food isn't overly fancy but it's tasty. It's reasonably priced - especially the pre-theater menu - making the whole experience a great value, especially given its location. We've been four times now and plan to go again.

A good value meal, with polite and unobtrusive staff. Only negative was that the rahi was over seasoned, and too salty.

Excellent value. The 'Ragu' was absolutely delicious - best ever outside Italy!!
