We had a 2 course lunch, with the Sunday roast as the main course. The meat was excellent, I had lamb and my son had beef, but the roast potatoes were over cooked and very hard. Overall though we enjoyed our lunch.

Food was good. Staff worked very hard. Two in our party wanted the schnitzel but the waitress said there wasn’t any but the chef made some ??

I have been to this restaurant several times and would always recommend, unfortunately not on this night. Very disappointing. My friend tried to order a gin and had to be told what gins were available as most were not. This started a theme for the evening.. The waitress read out what we couldn't have before we could order, and then when everyone else's food was placed on the table, told me that the chef had just noticed there was no rice to go with the peri peri. I chose to have chips but they were not the best, and a couple of people with steaks agreed this. I received my food as everyone else was half through their meals. Just hope this was a one off.

The old Corn Exchange building that McKenzie's Restaurant is situated in is quite fantastic. As a retired builder, I would suggest that the decor, open ceiling to the under side of the domed roof with its extra balcony dining area, would not be bettered in Staffordshire or many other restaurants anywhere. The roof, balcony and other timber work is decorated quite beautifully. The service was excellent, the food presented in a way you didn't want to disturb it to eat it, our choices we were delighted with and as a first visit, our reaction was, how soon to share with family and friends. Only slight draw backs, access only up a wonderfull tiled stair case, very well worth the effort to climb them, drink prices on the higher side. Neither will put us off using McKenzie's again and again. The place provides a warm felling we've found such a cracking good eating establishment, not too far from home. Sincerely, Chris Booker.

Good service, prompt and friendly. Starters were very tasty but serving a hot starter on a cold plate is not ideal. The rib eye steak I had was very disappointing, it was slightly overcooked, a little tough and not very tasty.
