Set back from the cobbled city centre streets of historic Oxford, Maxwell’s serves wholesome, all-American food in a diner-style setting. An informal, cosmopolitan cocktail bar is complemented by late-night live music performances at Maxwell’s restaurant.
Chunky portions and sharing platters pack the Maxwell’s Oxford menu, with dishes such as the fish sampler featuring New England crab patties, hand-scooped, crispy-baked potato skins, seared tiger prawns and sweet and spicy chilli salt squid. Main courses include a thick, pulled barbecue pork sandwich paired with creamy slaw, fries and gherkin, along with an 8-ounce melting fillet steak.
American-inspired posters and extending, silver lamps line the walls, throwing light onto the classic, leather-embossed booths and distressed oak tables. A retro, open kitchen faces out onto the dining area, whilst exposed steel framework is a nod to Maxwell’s contemporary characteristics.
An 11-minute walk from Oxford Rail Station, Maxwell’s in Oxford is a 6-minute walk to Oxford city centre.

We dined in the evening, whilest it was pretty quiet we were placed in a tight corner (group of 8) it was a tight squeeze for people to get in and out. One members order was incorrect and were all finished eating by the time the correct dish came. The food was average but I wouldnt go back again.

Busy as it was Saturday night but atmosphere was lively and fun. Food was good rather than excellent and the value was pretty good compared with similar eateries. Nice service.

I arrived with a group of friends on a Thursday night at 7.30pm, we were seated quickly and our orders were taken. The food arrive in good time, after that however things went down hill! We asked for the dessert menu but were told the kitchen was closed (8.30) we asked for another drink to be brought to the table, the waitress took our order but continued to pack the cutlery away from the other tables before taking our order to the bar. There were 3 others tables being occupied. The bar staff and waitresses then sat around the bar area chatting (loudly) and completely ignored us! We were'nt asked if wanted more drinks (we did) or if we wanted the bill. We decided to leave and had to go to the bar and ask our waitress if she wanted us to pay! She promptly gave us the bill, which, surprisingly was wrong as she had no idea who we were. After arguing about the bill, we were given a new correct bill however it included service charge! We refused to pay service charge as it was so bad. Will not be returning.

Met some friends for lunch whilst on my lunch break, there were 5 of us in total. turned up at 12:40pm and were greeted by a fairly abrupt member of staff. We were waiting over 10 minutes before someone asked what we would like to drink, and getting the drinks took a further 10 minutes. There were 4 tables of people that came in after us, all of which received their food before our table. We asked how long the food would take to be told be a very rude member of staff that it depended on what we ordered and how we liked it cooked. now that's all fair enough if the meal was complex, but it wasn;t. a few burgers and a sandwich? Perhaps the chefs should go back in training!. The service and attitude of the staff was dispicable and certainly not worthy of a tip. The final straw was when the bill arrived they included a service charge. for what? being rude, arrogant and unhelpful? I don't think so. And to top it off because the staff are clearly incapable of doing their job in an efficient manner, I was late back to work. My friends and I will DEFINITELY NOT be going there again. Don't waste your money, or your time.

Out celebrating my friends Hen Weekend. She booked a table for 15 at Maxwells for 7pm. We arrived on time a few people short due to illness. There was a table set up for us. We all sat down and was given menu's to ponder over. We were discussing amongst ourselves about paying options and decided to pay for what we ordered instead of splitting the bill. At which point, the Manager asked if we were ready to order, we said not just yet, to which He replied with "I have other tables to serve so could you hurry up" And directed that comment at the Hen. We were a bit taken aback at the rudeness so we hurriedly made a decision about what to order, and was ignored multiple times. Order was taken, and we recieved our food quickly. The first set of meals brought out were given out, and one of the ladies heard wrong and got the wrong meal, so a slight confusion was made, she apologised, the Manager just answered with :Listen when i speak". We all thought that was out of order, but gave him a chance thinking that was most likely how his manner is. But seeing how he was with the other Hen parties in the room, it quickly became clear that he was being rude to just us. One of the ladies ordered a salad which was quite pricey on the menu, expecting a big bowlful of salad, tomatoes etc, she received a small portion with just lettuce and some mushroom, so she asked if she could have something worth the price. The Manager slammed down the menu in front of her and said "I didn't write it" We did NOT pay gratuity. It put such a dampener on the night and it is a shame. The food was nice, cocktails were good and the other waiters and waitresses were lovely. Its the actions of that particular Manager that has lost this restaurant 13 peoples worth of custom, not one of us will ever be going back and nobody will ever recommend it anymore.

Went 12.30, plenty of space,, sat in one of the best seats by the window so we could watch the street. Quick and good service, although the food took a while to come. Looked like there was a coach trip in there though that could have influenced that.
