Set in 38 acres of idyllic gardens and woodland, The Conservatory restaurant at the Bannatyne Hotel is a tranquil dining haven in Hastings. Overlooking the colourful flowerbeds and manicured lawns of the formal gardens, the restaurant incorporates local, seasonal produce in refined British cuisine.

The Conservatory menu excites with cured five-spice Margery duck breast served with pan-fried foie gras and a rhubarb and apple puree, which features alongside a roast loin of Ashdown forest venison with dauphinoise potato and braised red cabbage in a red wine jus. Chic, monochrome tables at The Conservatory are soaked in sunlight and decorated with potted plants for a wholesome, natural ambience.

Accompanying The Conservatory restaurant is a colourful terrace bar, which serves full afternoon tea with freshly-made sandwiches and homemade scones. Decorated with vivid colours and eye-catching modern art, it opens out onto al fresco dining.

It’s roughly a 10-minute drive down from the Bannatyne Hotel to Hastings Station, with Hastings Castle just a minute or so further. The Bannatyne Hotel is part of a chain from Dragon’s Den magnate, Duncan Bannatyne.

Lovely afternoon tea. Beautiful setting, nice sandwiches, the scones were to die for and a lovely selection of cakes. My second visit and I’d definitely go back. The main meals looked lovely too.

We booked afternoon tea and were glad for a warm, sunny day, so we could sit outside and enjoy the beautiful garden. The afternoon tea was a bit of a let down though. The sandwiches had obviously been made and left for a while as the bread had dried out. The scones however, were gorgeous, lovely and warm. The cakes were average and the tea was tepid. The staff were very sweet though, kind and courteous.

Really only very average food, not everything on the menu was available despite only a handful of other diners on the day; largely unenthusiastic service - disappointing.

I advised the restaurant that I was vegan when I booked, which was several weeks prior. I was so disappointed with my meal, they didn't even order me any bread in

Myself and a couple of friends had afternoon tea here and it was lovely! Service was great and we felt looked after. The scones were lovely and a great choice of cakes too. The conservatory we were sat in overlooked the beautiful gardens and was very tranquil.

Thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Food was delicious and well cooked, lovely presentation. Staff friendly and professional. The ambience was wonderful, and the view of the grounds are refreshing. The only downside the portion size of the main were a bit small.

Lovely experience - had afternoon tea outside in garden - service was very friendly and efficient. Brought more tea when requested. Sandwiches tasty and fresh, scones were great - Friends liked the cake selection but as I do not eat chocolate too many of the cakes had a chocolate theme
