A finalist in Masterchef: The Professionals in 2016, Matt Healy at The Foundry is a funky modern venue for unique takes on British classics worthy of a Michelin Plate in the Michelin Guide. The red brick warehouse-style space is loaded with character, and features seating at the front to enjoy al fresco meals and drinks.
Matt Healy has crafted a truly inventive, exciting menu that gives new life to established British dishes. Nibble on snacks and charcuterie to start, like chorizo in cider, or order some of the small plate sharers like hand-cut beef tartare with yolk and a cheese and onion toastie. Tastes of the local area are served up with the Yorkshire venison, with other seasonal dishes added to the menu constantly.
An extensive wine list is on hand at Matt Healy at The Foundry in Leeds to complement any meal, along with freshly mixed cocktails like the gin and tonic made with Portobello Road Gin and fresh botanicals. Desserts are beautifully presented too, and include favourites like crème brûlée doughnut, and lemon posset with sherbet and meringue.
A polished yet ruggedly individual venture from the celebrated chef, Matt Healy at The Foundry is a 10-minute walk from Leeds Rail Station.

Not really our kind of dinning , too long a wait between plates , food not to our taste

The on line booking asked us to choose between Sunday lunch or a la carte. When we arrived there was only Sunday lunch available (so just check the site). However - oh my word - Sunday lunch was immense. A board to share: a large and perfect slice of beef and soft chicken, great spuds and Yorkshires and ample tasty gravy. The extra plus point was getting a good amount of very nice veg. Cabbage and bacon, French beans, peas and carrots and a piping hot bowl of cauliflower in blue cheese. We couldn’t have eaten it all if we had a starter and there was no room to try a pud. I did wash it down with a very crispy and fruity glass of Sicilian Pinot Grigio. So in conclusion, we were not disappointed in any way and will have to come back on a different day for the a la carte menu.

Loved the atmosphere, great service and friendly staff. Honestly the best Sunday lunch we have ever had. My only negative comment, having worked myself in the restaurant industry for over 10 years, was we weren't asked if we wanted to taste the wine from a corked bottle, and it was just immediately poured...... but i'm being picky and this is just my personal preference.

Firstly the food was excellent. I would say that the beef fillet was melt in your mouth lovely and the treacle sponge and ice cream was a perfect "Man dessert". The restaurant itself was very light and very loud and therefore as an evening dining experience I'm not sure it's what we actually wanted. Having been to the previous owners Foundry and as a fan of Masterchef I was really interested in trying Matt Healy's restaurant and food. The "New way of dining" in terms of ordering lots of food and it just comes when it's ready, is not really new it's just non-Spanish Tapas. Also considering that the food was sharing, there wasn't really enough of it. Service was very slow and although the waitress and hostess were helpful and lovely the food just didn't come quick enough and there was never enough of it - until dessert - which was in fairness a proper portion. In fairness to the Foundry, as a place it is new and vibrant and very modern. Which is probably my biggest issue as I am a traditionalist. Cannot fault the food it was perfect, and as a lunch / afternoon place would have been superb. Just not for me as an evening venue. I would recommend on that basis.

This was our first visit to The Foundry, and we were welcomed warmly by very personable staff. There was a lovely 'buzz' about the place and felt instantly relaxed. We chose to visit for the Sunday Lunch and were blown away by the food, both in taste and presentation. Each course excelled! My taste buds just danced!! As the wine we selected was unavailable, I was offered a sample of two other recommended wines from which to choose, which I found extremely appealing. Great attention to detail. Love to be able to watch 'the Master' and his staff at work in the kitchen too, and in support have knowledgable and friendly people behind the bar as well as on hand to help with any request. The overall experience was a true delight. We are hoping to return for an evening occasion to sample other delights on the menu and the ambience of evening dining.
