Firmly holding a Michelin star since 2006, Masons Arms blends classic pub charm and exquisite fine dining delicacies. Set in a 13th-century thatched cottage, owner and chef Mark Dodson brings 12 years’ experience working under Michel Roux.

Transforming honest, locally sourced ingredients into flawless creations, the Masons Arms menu showcases superb culinary skill. Crisply presented Masons restaurant dishes include monkfish loin wrapped in prosciutto with potato puree, or roulade of pork belly, braised red cabbage and apple compote.

Innovative twists for dessert include rhubarb trio or chocolate parfait and mandarin sorbet, or enjoy dainty macarons, homemade fudge and rich coffee. Guests can enjoy a sterling international wine list sourced from boutique growers either in the quaint, farmhouse-style dining room, or out on the lush terrace during summer.

A gem set in the heart of the Devonshire countryside, Masons Arms Knowstone was awarded the prestigious accolade of Michelin’s Pub of the Year in 2010.

This was our second visit for lunch to the Masons Arms, I chose from the a la carte menu and my wife had the three course set lunch. All the food was as outstanding this time as on the previous visit and excellent. Friendly reception and excellent bar service and the wait staff were friendly and very professional. Dining room and table very attractive

Top end quality food and service in an informal atmosphere. Views from garden and location in rural village make the masons a memorable event.

Nice to be recognised from previous annual visits! Very pleasantly surprised to find Sam's local Devon cider on draught - not many Devon pubs manage that! We mixed selections from the set lunch and A La Carte menu, which suits this fussy eater. The flavour of the tomato soup from the set menu was just amazing, and some rye bread on the side. We both chose the fish as the main course, another sign of quality. My dessert was the trio of apple dishes, as wonderful as I suspected from their Facebook posting. Their recommended Sauternes to accompany was perfect. I added a glass of their oloroso-like sloe gin to accompany their sweetmeats and coffee. We had booked a week ahead, and every table was full this September Wednesday, so plenty of atmosphere in the restaurant. Excellent service as usual. Looking forward to our next visit.

After previous visits, I found the set lunch menu and experience quite disappointing.
The tomatoe and garlic soup and chicken parfait wasn’t inspiring . The cod was cooked well but I felt lacked seasoning. The posset was served in a water glass which was served directly onto the table which in a Michelin star restaurant is not usual.
Walk ins were asking for bar lunches which were declined. It’s a shame no charcuterie plates or cheeses were offered to them. Lots of staff and 7 tables. Plenty of room in the bar. The large church pew we sat on in the bar due to bringing our dog was wobbly and extremely uncomfortable.
We had coffee in the lounge.
We were asked if everything was ok but I think the staff could see it wasn’t. Didn’t want to disrupt the service so we paid and left. Very disappointed as I love going there.

Lovely people and super village location, misty moors in the distance, view of hills out the window. Good beers on tap too. Our food was from the combined cheaper menu, and the staff had also made a vegetarian listing for us because we like veggy food. Well-presented food, crusty baked bread rolls, good portion sizes. We found the Sicilian pasta a bit semolina-like, but the fish and roast pork belly were excellent. Loved the lemon posset, and cheese board for one had delicious Sharpham brie and other Devon cheeses. All-round good value and worth going again to try more of the menu.
