Firmly holding a Michelin star since 2006, Masons Arms blends classic pub charm and exquisite fine dining delicacies. Set in a 13th-century thatched cottage, owner and chef Mark Dodson brings 12 years’ experience working under Michel Roux.

Transforming honest, locally sourced ingredients into flawless creations, the Masons Arms menu showcases superb culinary skill. Crisply presented Masons restaurant dishes include monkfish loin wrapped in prosciutto with potato puree, or roulade of pork belly, braised red cabbage and apple compote.

Innovative twists for dessert include rhubarb trio or chocolate parfait and mandarin sorbet, or enjoy dainty macarons, homemade fudge and rich coffee. Guests can enjoy a sterling international wine list sourced from boutique growers either in the quaint, farmhouse-style dining room, or out on the lush terrace during summer.

A gem set in the heart of the Devonshire countryside, Masons Arms Knowstone was awarded the prestigious accolade of Michelin’s Pub of the Year in 2010.

Our first visit but I am sure not our last. We loved the whole experience from entering the bar and seeing Mark chatting to the locals, until we left.
We were made very welcome and spent quite some time talking to Sarah. Such a loverly personal approach. The food was superb with a good choice. There was a good selection of wines to choose from.
Really I could not find fault with the whole experience. It was delightful.

The Mason's Arms is a special place. The food and ambience are wonderful. Our recent visit was very busy with every table full but the same great personal attention and service. It's located on the Two Moors Way and other good walking routes - guests are welcome whether in walking boots or not! highly recommended. We have dined here both with and without reservations but booking is a good idea. Look at the master classes on the website, they are popular too. A family run business by people who care, and it shows.

The Masons Arms is a beautiful, tinycountry pub with a small restaurant. The staff are all friendly and happy to help with choices. Sarah and Mark ( the chef) go out of their way to make you feel at home. Then the food we had the lunch menu £27.50 for 3 courses or £24 for 2. The peppered tuna starter was gorgeous as are the home made bread rolls. For my main I had sea bream with a salmon sausage, my partner had belly pork. Both wonderful meals. We couldn’t fault anything, except that we were to full for desert. We will be back.

Service and Food are both excellent. The dining experience is cosy and intimate. Dishes are not overwhelming, they are perfectly portioned. I always leave The Mason Arms wanting more!

Fantastic meal and service. Each course a treat. individual dishes were distinctive and you could taste to separate elements - the sign of a top Chef. Squid and scallop started and fillet beef with Ox Cheek were stand out dishes.

From the moment we entered The Masons Arms to be greeted by a warm log fire, and a welcoming smile from the staff we knew that it was going to be an enjoyable lunchtime. The pub has extremely low ceilings, two real fires in the two small bar areas, a small dining area and is just ideal for a cosy, lazy lunch. We all chose from the £25, 3 course set menu, which offers a small but delightful choice for each course, together with a recommended wine with each dish. The wine recommendation went down extremely well and meant that we didn't have to find our way around the wine menu. Despite us selecting the set menu we still felt that the quality of food and service we received was as good as if we had gone a la carte.
The restaurant is smallish, with a beautiful outlook over the garden and rolling countryside. The weather was wet and cold but inside was warm and comfortable so watching the drizzle pass by the window whilst dining was an absolute pleasure
The cauliflower soup and the venison Terrine starters were served with homemade rolls, and the mains of bream or pork belly were both delicious but the chocolate cheesecake with caramelised banana was the star dish with all of us. Coffee came with delightful Petite Fours.
The service was friendly, professional and it was good to chat with the proprietors as we left.
We will certainly be back......probably very soon!

Really delicious, pleasant atmosphere, rustic and simple, not in the least pretentious, loved the chocolate cheesecake with banana and peanut and raspberry garnish, wow, so unbelievably light.
