Building on the traditions of the historic Wheeler’s restaurant, the Wheeler’s Oyster Bar & Grill Room menu is packed with timeless classics. From the fish options, try the classic fish pie, organic salmon kedgeree, or fried haddock with triple-cooked chips and marrowfat peas. Such an impressive venue. Delicious food. Attentive service. Had to wait a while for our food but the waiter was very apologetic and so did not charge us for our drinks.

Nice settings and staff really good. I went for the 3 course set menu. Duck was well cooked and pink. Dessert was a lemon cheesecake but I returned this because the spoon couldn't even break into the digestive base. This was changed for an apple crumble. Starter was really nice and the main. Not the best of desserts. Also, Pretty expensive to pay for a small glass of water at £2. Bar area is really nice and trendy .But, overall , its a very nice venue and I would revisit

I booked this for my 40th birthday celebrations and had afternoon tea with friends. The staff were attentive and very friendly and even wished me a happy birthday by bringing out a special plate and singing! All together a special experience :)

This is a converted bank, but done very well. The worst example I saw was Wetherspoons in Glasgow.

We met with friends on a bookatable deal which are amazing value, though we always quadruple the bill!

We arrived last evening (Friday) and sat in the bar. It was pretty empty apart from a few City workers that were having their pre-journey home drinks. My wife and I ordered drinks and were presented with a bill? I explained we were dining and he just mumbled "Restaurant through there" Yes, I could see that clearly for myself! This was amateur and I told him. I am accustomed to having a cocktail in a restaurant/hotel bar and being taken to my table from there. Never mind.

Our friends arrived so we went to our table in an empty restaurant. A real shame as it felt like we were eating in a museum, albeit an incredibly elegant one.

The food was very unusual for a bookatable deal, in that it was what it said on the menu. The beetroot and goats cheese was just that as was the beef as was the cheese.

I have never and I mean never seen such generous portions, ever. When we go for a tasting menu I call it Big description, small portions. But this was actually a hearty meal. Thank you.

The wine list was incredible value, and I mean incredible. I think our bottle of red was around £30!

Four meals of extremely generous portions with a good variety, bottle of wine, glass of port and coffee for under £200. Wow! Amazing value

This restaurant deserves to be packed every night and if it were it would buzz. Thus the "but". The restaurant staff were lovely and I really hope this excellent deal is used more. It just needs to be full to create the atmosphere.

Good luck to them because this is a worthy contender

Went under the Bookatable Scheme, but didn't fancy anything off the limited choice bargain (?) menu, so went a la carte. This is a huge former banking hall of the Midland Bank converted into the restaurant and the adjacent luxury Hotel. Everything is massive - huge columns, 30 foot high ceilings etc, so one feels lost and inconsequential. Only half a dozen diners on a Monday night (when we got there at 8pm, and we were the only ones left as we went at 9.30pm, so completely lacking in atmosphere for a romantic birthday dinner for my wife.
Very disappointed with the food from the Marco Pierre White kitchens : Nina's calamari to start was nothing out of the ordinary, and my escargots bourguignonne were overloaded in breadcrumbs which made it very dry, and somehow the dish was much over-salted. There was plenty of assorted fish in my fish pie, and Nina had chicken, but neither dish had any "Wow" factor as one would expect from such a name and price. We passed on desserts, just having a couple of scoops of ice cream each, but decided these vanilla and maple flavours were the best part of the meal. Nina enjoyed her tasty Burns whisky cocktail and I my Pear Mojito Mocktail.
The staff were excellent : efficient, helpful service and very friendly manner - shame about the food.

We have utilised a lot of the deals that bookatable have and I have to say this was the worst we have attended, we booked 3 courses and a glass of fizz for £29.99. we where shown to our table and the menus where given at no point where we offered the glass of fizz and in the end I had to ask for it. we ordered starters one of us had the salt beef and the other the calamari, the calamari was served on a tomato puree I asked the waiter if I could have some lemon he said that it is sitting on a tomato base I asked again he went away and came back with a hole lemon just cut in half there was no finesse in the serving. we both had the lamb which was good it was supposed to be served with purple sprouting in fact it was served with broccoli. we then asked for a cheese board to share this was served, we asked the waiter if he could tell us what the cheeses where as he could not answer and had to go and get the menu and informed us that they where all British showing us the menu. when I questioned him further about the cheeses which in fact where good and asked if he could tell us the names he pointed at the one as said that's cheddar. this is not the service I would expect from a restraint of this calibre and we where very disappointed we would not recommend and will not be returning to this particular venue

I found the food and service amazing. The waiter was so tentative but not over bearing. We choose the set menu which was fabulous - the portion sizes were just right and very good value for money. I would definitely go back.
