To be frank, this was this was the second time I have dined at Wheelers and it will be the last.
I arrived at the appointed hour for my table but was still ushered to the bar to wait as it wasn't ready yet - this was at 5.30, their first slot, as I was going on to the theatre afterwards.
The set menu was very short and, in the case of the main courses, not very tempting. I chose the fish and chips which was a big mistake. The chips and mushy peeas were fine but the fish was mushy and probably (over) cooked from frozen and the batter was both oily and overcooked. My companion's confit of duck was very nice though.
Starters were ok but nothing special - desserts very good.
Despite being early in the evening and consequentiially not terribly busy, I had to ask for the bill twice before it was delivered.
I can understand why this place is not doing great business. It is a lovely room - the front one, not the back one, which is nice but nothing special - and I like the cheeeky artworks and the ambience. But it is not an inexpensive place to eat and I suspect that if Marco himself were to eat there as a customer he would be chucking cleavers and insults like his old pal Gordon.

Very good food. Rather pricey though. Good service, too, with waiters anxious to keep my wine tasting its best and topping my glass up very frequently. On the downside, the waiters kept wanting to take my plate away, even though I hadn't finished. That made me a bit irritated.

dined at 6.30 on a saturday night and the restaurant was quiet but soon filled up with diners - our friends from amaerica really enjoyed the food and there were choices of food they had not experienced before which was exciting for them. Thankyou for making us so welcome and comfortable

We were really disappointed with the meal as it was for a special occasion and wasn't as expected. The starters were okay as was the main course but the sweet was very poor I took Eton Mess and it was just a bowl of whipped cream Service was efficient but not friendly. Would not recommend this restaurant.

Lunch just before Christmas - perfect as off the beaten track :)

This was a quiet Christmas lunch with a client. It could not have been better for the occasion apart from the battered fish and chips which were not up to standard.

Head waiter only explained what wasn't on the menu when we ordered. It would have been nice to know when we were considering what to eat. Rest of waiters very friendly but professional
