Food was excellent. One of the party thought the steak and ale pie didn't have much meat in it but it was changed for a different dish, although she had to wait. Everyone else enjoyed their meal. We would definitely go back

We arrived and were seated on a table that was poorly lit, crumbs on the table with some dirty cutlery in an area where they’d clearly had a lot of afternoon tea bookings and hadn’t cleared the section.
The wine and Prosecco was poor quality - not what I expected from a restaurant of this calibre.
We were moved tables but the new section was very cold but better lit. Starters came out quickly and were of an adequate quality, the mains were awful, the fillet steaks came out cold and the accompanying sauces were not as mentioned on the menu, the garlic mushroom sauce was just a pot of mushrooms and the peppercorn sauce was like water. It was an extremely disappointing meal. The only thing that had any flavour was the truffle sauce on the salad.
Puddings were good, especially the sticky toffee.
No waitress came to check if our food was OK and did not ask whilst clearing, I had to bring the issues up.
When dealing with the bill, we were going back and forth numerous times as inappropriate discount was added and items showed up on our bill we hadn’t even ordered. Again, very disappointing experience.

Food was good but the service very slow. Why don’t the waiting staff seek eye contact with customers?

Our visit for afternoon tea was absolutely wonderful. The food was delicious and all the staff were so courteous and nothing was too much trouble.
We had a great time and will certainly go again.

The ramekin provided to us with the jam had a really large chip in the china. The wooden serving display cabinets although a nice idea were really marked and just didn’t look very clean. The afternoon tea itself was nice but I’m afraid I felt rather disappointed with the above.

    Amazing steak

Poor. Steak over cooked, chips and sauce cold. Needed recooking so two of us ate and one had to wait for their meal.
Overheard two other diners the previous night having same issue.

The food was very nice , despite my treacle tart being the smallest I had ever seen and half the size of all the other puddings. I would say though that it was not exceptional and not at all sure it justified the price.
The main problem was the service. We had all been seated for well over 5 minutes before anyone came to ask if we would like a drink, even though there was only one other table of two occupied. It was very hard to catch sight of serving staff throughout the evening and we had time and again to call someone over when we eventually saw someone appear. The bottle of white wine was warm, we were not offered fresh glasses for the red wine, and there were long waits before we could order. For dessert, two of our party only received their desserts and the other 3 did not appear for 10 minutes.
I have not had such awful service for a very long time, and inexplicably on a very quiet evening and at a supposedly prestigious restaurant. A 10% service charge was added which in the circumstances we disputed, and the understanding staff member took this off without question. We would not return.
