Food was very nice but charging £3 or whatever for each veg dish was too much. It meant I didn't have the range of veg I would have liked. The lady who served us was excellent. Service in general was good. Location nice. I had a Sunday roast the following day in a pub in Folkestone where I had a selection of veg with the meat and the whole dish cost £15. I felt the hotel (MPW) was trying to shoot above their grade. The beef I had was nice but wasn't £25 worth. PS I eat out a lot at many different levels of restaurant including Michelin-rated so I see all prices and qualities.

This was the 2nd time we had visited the restaurant. The 1st time we ordered from the al a carte menu which was amazing, however this time we had the Valentine’s Day set menu and it was very underwhelming. The scallops had run out for my wife’s starter, which wasn’t an issue but the smoked salmon she had instead came with a slice of bread which was clearly straight out of a cheap supermarket loaf. Where was the nice homemade warm roll she expected?? The broth did not come with any bread or roll and in fact there was a charge if you wanted any whichi found incredible. The Chateaubriand steak for main course was cooked exactly as requested but considering there was an £8 surcharge each it was not enough for 2 adults and was served on 3 enormous plates that didn’t fit on our table. I had the cheese board for dessert which was disappointing as it featured cheese and biscuits that I could have bought in my local supermarket. Whilst I appreciate ordering from the Set menu may not be as nice as the a la carte menu, we found the whole occasion to be considerably underwhelming and disappointing.

Food was exceptional. Unfortunately the service was awful. Table was never cleared of wine glasses we was not using and used dirty glasses were left for the full duration of the meal. Waiter was forgetful and unatentive, we had to ask for dessert menu twice and still it got forget. As I say I’m the food was great but the experience was completely ruined by appalling service.

It's close to unimaginable how/why MPW has given his name to this restaurant. Two of the four steaks were cooked as asked, one was disappointing, and the fourth had to be returned as the requested 'rare' was at best 'medium'. The replacement steak took 15 minutes to arrive, at which stage the rest of the group were close to finishing their meals. The chips were unimpressive, and the description of the 'frites' option was a complete misnomer. The starters (calamari & whitebait) were soggy & tasteless, being obviously pre-packaged & frozen, and cooked in substandard oil. We were sat by the service entry, so were regularly treated to the glare of the lights from the service area & the strange sight of a wall full of food photographs whose purpose was presumably to show the service team what each dish was supposed to look like? There was also a coffee station behind one of my guest's heads, that had used coffee loudly bashed out on the counter top at regular intervals. The staff were friendly & pleasant, but the service was exceptionally slow, with the starters taking over an hour to arrive. We were given a 50% discount on the miscooked steak.

Lovely steak but we weren't very impressed with the chips (if they're not straight out of a bag I'll be very surprised!) and only 3 very small cherry tomatoes. We were told there were no onion rings only to see a later table be delivered a huge portion, when we asked we were told the chefs made some in the end! Service was friendly but not great. Probably wouldn't go again to be honest! Bill was over £100 for bread and olives, 2 main meals and some drinks.

We had a limited menu with plenty of choice through Groupon. I had the Scotch Egg and Steak main, both were absolutely fantastic. My wife had the Avery Island burger and the chocolate mousse which she equally enjoyed. Service was great and extremely friendly, would highly recommend to others.
