Great food, great service, great views - marvellous 30% off the food bill during August!

The restaurant is a wonderful setting with great views over Birmingham and beyond. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. However, the meal was a little disappointing. The main courses were rather bland and not to the standard I expect from this establishment.

Myself and my partner had visited here several times before, most recent at Christmas time during the Christmas market and booked a trip from derby again to take the mother in law for her birthday as we had such a great time previously. We booked to come in may and requested a window seat for a surprise for her. I am very surprised to see that the service has went down hill since December. We arrived 45 minutes prior to our reserved ( in May) time of 8pm. After getting a bottle of fizz to share prior to the meal, i approached the trainee host to ask if the table was ready. He said yes, shown us to a non window view table. I said that we had booked the window table and that’s why we had come. I was then advised it was on a first come first served basis. How can a table that was booked nearly 4 months ago was only available on a first come basis? What was the point in reserving a table if they give it to walk ins? I was then told if I wanted the window table we would have to wait another hour an a half. I was heavily disappointed at the attitude of this trainee host and asked to speak to the manager to resolve this issue and he seemed apologetic and asked us to take a seat again in the bar. After waiting more time, we were shown to a booth near a window as a compromise and by this point, we didn’t have a lot of choice bar going down to the Tesco express for tea. We sat and again was served by another trainee who, despite being in a place where you are not allowed in with trainers, greeted us by addressing our table as Hey guys and other manners far too casual for a setting like this. We waited over 30 minutes for our main meals of steaks and had to ask for more drinks as no one seemed to want to serve us. After all that, we were still laden with the £20 window view table charge as they explained, 2 of our table could see out however the other 2 it was blocked by the booth. Always try to dine here at least three or four times a year. Beautiful place and great Ambience. Staff are always courteous, attentive and Friendly. Food was excellent as always, I had the 16oz T Bone which was cooked perfectly for me and my wife had the 8ox Sirloin again cooked to perfection, both were very tasty. Requested a window seat and was given one. Bought 4 friends with us who also loved the experience and we will all be revisiting soon.

Beautiful atmosphere. Loved the views and the music was a great touch. Our food was exemplary, my only complaint is that there was too much choice, it was very difficult to decide! It was our waiter, Ryan’s first day, but you’d never know, he was really professional and gave us loads of fab tips on things to do and places to go in Birmingham. Would thoroughly recommend coming here.

This was a very poor experience unfortunately. The restaurant had an offer on for the whole of August for 30% of total bill. I checked that this offer was on when i booked and then again when I arrived a the restaurant and was told that it was. I ordered the lamb shoulder. I never ever complain about food in a restaurant but the lamb was so tough that, even having asked for a steak knife, I still couldn't cut through it. I raised this with the waiting staff who took it back to the chef and even the chef agreed that it was tough and agreed to do me a new one (I was told of a 8-10 minutes wait, which was fine). However, it was a good 20 minutes until my replacement lamb arrived and it was just the same. I didn't want to complain a second time so I simply just ate the vegetables and left the entire piece of lamb on my plate. The waiting staff didn't mention this when they cleared, but it was evident that I had not eaten the lamb. Then, when the bill came, it was a full price (i.e. no 30% discount). I asked the waiting staff to apply the 30% and he said " oh, was that agreed because of the problem with the lamb?" When I informd him of the offer, he was completely unaware of the offer! This only leads me to believe that the restaurant was charging everyone full price and that - in order to get the 30% off, you had to ask for it. I sincerely hope this was not the case but the fact that the waiting staff were not aware of it and we were 2 weeks into August, suggests to me that they had not been giving it !! Not very impressed. I have only ever had positive experiences in this resturant before - having dined there half a dozen times - but I don't think I will be hurrying back I am sad to say.
