We had Sunday lunch and the starters were very nice and my chicken pie was full of flavour. Unfortunately, the lamb joint was inedible. Fatty and a lot of gristle. The manager was very apologetic and we were not charged for my husband's meal which was excellent customer service. However, this was the second time this has happened - rump steak the last time, So we were extremely disappointed. I would be looking at the meat supplier as this has happened to 2 friends as well.

This was supposed to be a special meal to celebrate my husband's retirement and we were staying over in the lovely Hotel Indigo, in which the restaurant is situated, to do this. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. With Marco Pierre White's name above the door we expected something special, or at least enjoyable; sadly not. The menu is very limited but my husband had the Alex James Blue Monday and Poached Pear salad to start, which he said was nice enough. I ordered Welsh Rarebit; this arrived almost cold and the bread was soggy; I could produce better myself. He then had the pan-fried Scallops, whilst I ordered Mr Lamb's Shepherd's Pie. His scallops were tasty but probably more of a starter as the portion was small but the waiting staff did not tell him that so he then had to, after a 10 minute wait for any staff to appear in the dining room, order another serving. My Shepherd's Pie was in a small, shallow dish with about a centimetre of meat covered by piped mashed potato; about as small a serving as possible! The accompanying 'buttered garden peas' were certainly not fresh and showed no evidence of being 'buttered'. Had Marco himself been served with this, I'm pretty sure what his reaction would have been!! The dessert was even more dreadful; after being told that the flavour of the Box Tree Mess that evening was Banoffee (???). We ordered the "Autumn Fruits Poached in Sparkling Wine"; what we were actually given was a fruit salad, stone cold from the fridge, which contained no Autumn fruits at all but lots of apple and melon!! There wasn't an Autumn berry in sight. When I asked if there was any cream available I was told, " We have squirty cream"!! The fruit was too cold to eat anyway; we were asked if we'd like something else but, by then, had no faith that any alternative would be any better. This had to be the most disappointing meal we've had in a long time, and after paying so much for it in order to celebrate his retirement too.

Pretty disappointed. Reduced menu to start then got to table and there was no game. So further more a reduced menu. Chose fillet steak with fricasee of mushrooms, mushrooms were unseasoned and pretty cheap plain standard flavourless mushroom with no variety at all. Sauce was thin but nice. Spinach wasn’t buttered or seasoned. Again no flavour. The dish didn’t complement itself like a Marco dish should. Could not get over the fact that fillet steak was served on bread?????? I could not accept this and asked for my steak to be served without bread, but with tomatoes instead. Tomatoes didn’t make it onto the plate. I mean come on what a way to destroy a good bit of meat. Bread?? Surely he can come up with something better in a pandemic than bread. No imagination or enjoyment at a restaurant I always loved to go to.

Lovely food and setting. We were taking advantage of the “kids eat free” offer so were disappointed that the kid’s menu on the website was not the one presented when we sat down. The waiter advised that this had been changed some time ago but kindly offered to ask the kitchen if they would cook one of the missing meals. This was really appreciated and the service throughout our visit was friendly and helpful.

Found the food very over priced for the quality and the menu was not up to much, not much to choose from, no specials and £4 for a few peas that really should have already been on the plate with a steak. And only 4 desserts to choose from, very poor after looking forward to it.

Overall, our dinning experience was enjoyable. However, on every visit something is always wrong with our bill. We have been overcharged, under charged and given the wrong bill on one occasion. When challenged every time the management has said we are wrong and then had to back down and admit we were right. Could of been costly on one occasion when we hadn't been charged for a £22.00 bottle of wine. We had to tell the manager and she again argued that the bill was correct before realising the mistake. Then on Saturday night we were over charged by £10. I had to go and tell the manger about the issue and she had to get a calculator out. I wouldn't review but as this keeps happening I felt I had to say something. Cashing off bills seems floored.

We were out as a family for my wife’s birthday. We had been at the restaurant before on several occasions and always had a good experience. On this occasion service was good but the food didn’t match the reputation. I had the duck, this was cooked fine but the sauce was just like a sugar syrup ( not nice) which didn’t work. My wife had the game burger which was very dry. On a positive note, the steak my son had was great and cooked lovely. I didn’t want to complain at the time as it was my wife’s birthday and didn’t want to spoil the evening any further.
