Ours was a birthday celebration for five family members, with a standard menu. The menu choices were richly varied, allowing for all tastes, and everyone was delighted with their choice. We treated our starters as tapas dishes, sharing them among us, and everyone loved all of them, especially perhaps the game croquettes and the tiger prawns. The coq au vin was exquisite, as was the pork fillet. Everyone chose the sticky toffee pudding, which was perfect in texture and flavour. We also enjoyed the modestly priced pays d'oc red wine and the Chenin blanc. The service was excellent – friendly and attentive without ever being intrusive. A huge success (my daughter said it was "amazing").

I had as a main, the Fish Cake. I thought it was a starter, which in a lot of hotel restaurants it would be, one medium sized fish cake, a tiny piece of spinach topped with a 'Cotswold egg" ?
Our friend had Lamb which was fatty. Also the range of beers was limited to one local brew and one lager. I hate to complain but it was not good at all, I don't think any of our party enjoyed the experience at all and I will not be back..

Staff and service impeccable. My daughter's coq au vin was terrific but my cod was slightly underwhelming. Too little seasoning and very lonely. Butter bean mash minisicule. However puds were bang on.

We wait a little bit to be seated with no clear reason but after that the personnel was fair enough. The ambience is very nice and particular. Above all we liked Summer stew of grilled Merguez sausages, cannellini beans, tomatoes, parsley, garlic & grilled Altamura bread as main and Valrhona chocolate truffle torte, crème fraîche & fresh raspberries as dessert.

Lunch was nicely done but the afternoon tea which seemed also t be on offer, was not mentioned to us and looked rather more appealing.

Amazing setting in the old Oxford Jail - good food and service - have been before and will certainly go again. Particularly impressed with the front of house team.

A bit disappointing sums up our visit of 4 friends. We arrived earlier than our booking but our table was already available (we were probably the last booking of the day).
Serving staff did not know nor understand their menu but to be honest it became comical - so not too bad. Starers were ok. The "special" was crown of lamb which was served as 2 lamb chops withe spring greens. The problem was the lack of a potato dish to complement the lamb (except for tins of chips which - were obviously wrong).
desserts were also ok.
Tuesday evening might be a quiet time for this restaurant but for average pub food and poor service we will not be returning anytime soon.
