Overlooking the River Tyne and the iconic Millennium Bridge, CHEZ MAL Brasserie is housed in the exclusive Malmaison Newcastle hotel. A stylish twist on a traditional brasserie, French classics are reinterpreted with rebellious British flair.
Timeless classics join a daily plat du jour and seasonal prix fixe menus, with the likes of Thai-spiced pumpkin broth with crab and orzo pasta, and slow-roasted Black Angus short ribs on offer. Elsewhere on the menu, discover favourites like tuna tartare, strip steaks and Goan moules.
Balancing classical extravagance and modern apartment chic, the decadent décor of the CHEZ MAL Brasserie ensures that dining is both intimate and atmospheric. Subdued and atmospheric, a cosmopolitan selection of cocktails at the bar showcases signature creations from the Mal mixologists, alongside a well-balanced range of world wines.
Filled with glossy black lacquer and plush leather, The Brasserie at the Newcastle Malmaison offers a calm and relaxed setting. Manors Rail Station is 7 minutes’ walk away.

We had afternoon tea with champagne for a birthday treat and it was quite the nicest and most filling afternoon tea I have had. The service was excellent with just the right amount omit attention but without too. Yeh fuss. The presentation of the food was lovely and the variety of food provided was not traditional of afternoon tea but made it really different. Mini burger and wraps were a very delightful change to the usual finger sandwiches. The view from the restaurant is spectacular.

The sliders which are part of the afternoon tea package were a great touch, really added something modern and different to afternoon tea. The area was nice and relax.

Chez Mal was fantastic! The food was different, and I had dishes I hadn't before, but all of the three courses were cooked well, tasty and good value. Our party of six went for the 3 course option, there was a varied menu and the puddings were delicious.
The service was excellent and the waiting staff were pleasant and could have done anymore to make us feel anymore welcome. We had the house wine, red and white, again this was great, it was £20 per bottle and we felt again it was a good price for a quality bottle of wine.
The restaurant room is decorated lavishly and you can see the sights overlooking the river Tyne, the illuminated Tyne Bridge and the Sage building.
It was a birthday celebration and I had requested a table by the window, the staff were so accommodating, the birthday girl got a glass of fizz and a written "Happy Birthday" message in chocolate sauce on her dessert. Better than the waiter singing " Happy Birthday" on a chair any day!!!
