Overlooking the River Tyne and the iconic Millennium Bridge, CHEZ MAL Brasserie is housed in the exclusive Malmaison Newcastle hotel. A stylish twist on a traditional brasserie, French classics are reinterpreted with rebellious British flair.
Timeless classics join a daily plat du jour and seasonal prix fixe menus, with the likes of Thai-spiced pumpkin broth with crab and orzo pasta, and slow-roasted Black Angus short ribs on offer. Elsewhere on the menu, discover favourites like tuna tartare, strip steaks and Goan moules.
Balancing classical extravagance and modern apartment chic, the decadent décor of the CHEZ MAL Brasserie ensures that dining is both intimate and atmospheric. Subdued and atmospheric, a cosmopolitan selection of cocktails at the bar showcases signature creations from the Mal mixologists, alongside a well-balanced range of world wines.
Filled with glossy black lacquer and plush leather, The Brasserie at the Newcastle Malmaison offers a calm and relaxed setting. Manors Rail Station is 7 minutes’ walk away.

Disappointing - a restaurant now surviving on expense accounts and agoraphobics. We hadn't been for years so thought we would give it a try when the book-a-table offer came through. My wife had the duck leg which, whilst tasty, was drowning in lentils (cheap filler I guess). This dish came with 'winter greens' which turned out to be a selection of cabbage.......! My fish chowder was, again tasty, but more like a starter than a main course. Considering the reputation of the Malmaison Hotel we were not even asked if our coats could be taken during the meal - instead, draping them over highly food stained chairs. The chocolate sponge pudding was very nice and acted as a consolation prize. With so many restaurants in Newcastle offering excellent food at comparable prices it is no wonder the Malmaison is having to resort to book-a-table type deals to generate custom. Faded glory.

Thought the staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Food was good for the price. The experiences was slightly spoilt by the large number of fruit flys in the dinning area ( normally a sign of poor hygiene)

The service was excellent, the waiter (Don) very attentive and polite. The meal was excellent. Our problems started at the end of the meal when we asked for the bill. This took more than 20 minutes and we were overcharged by approximately £12. We were charged for three courses when e only had two and also for the tap water (£3.95) that we asked for at the beginning of the meal which did not arrive. We were initially going to leave a £10 tip for Dom as he had given such good service but then realised that there had been a service charge added to the bill, therefore Malmaison decided the level of tip were to give.

The food was delicious. I asked the first person at my table for water I was told the waiter will get it. I then the next person and after and it still didn't appear although they brought my processco. Finally I had to leave my seat to go and get s member of staff who then did bring my water. That was the only blip as we both enjoyed the good immensely.

Smoked mackerel pate with beetroot delicious, though needs more than 2 slices of wafer thin sordough toast and grilled chicken breast with Thai salad was yummy. The truffle and parmesan frites were gorgeous!

Our dining experience was an absolute delight, we were welcomed, seated by the window overlooking the river and brought glasses of fizz. The food was excellent and a we had a very attentive but unobtrusive waiter so everything arrived in a timely fashion.

The waiter was brilliant always checking if we were ok and recommended the cheesecake at the end which was amazing.
We both had the goats cheese salad to start which was amazing.
Lovely experience and view of the quayside in Newcastle.

Loved it. Seating, Food, staff were all great.
Only thing I didn't like was the 10% service charge as I prefer to tip as appropriate.
