Lovely well trained friendly staff , very attentive, even offered water without us having to ask. Food delicious hard to choose as all sounded nice . Fantastic experience

We waited to be greeted by a lady who was on the phone for about 5 minutes without even being acknowledged. Two of us ordered the Eggs Muerette to start and all four poached eggs were hard! The waitress had to leave us several times to ask questions she couldn’t answer for us. The main course was very disappointing I had chicken breast with a garlic sauce, the chicken was so chargrilled it tasted very burnt! With a meagre portion of Savoy cabbage in the side this was supposedly ‘spring greens’ my friends duck was disappointing too! We didn’t even look at the dessert menu. Wine was very expensive £35 for three glasses!!! Eyewatering! Then after that they have the audacity to add a £9.54 service charge! We paid the bill, grudgingly then hung around waiting for someone to get our coats, which didn’t come until we actually had to ask for them!!

It was the fifth time I had dined at this restaurant. It most definitely was the worst experience, considering it was for a friends birthday. My starter was very lukewarm and should have been HOT. My main had what appeared to be plastic, in the dish. The server, whom I've seen every time I've been there, did not know what it was. Eventually it turns out to be "rock salt" even though it was flat and almost rectangular. It is a rule of mine that, should I be dissatisfied by a dish served, that I do not request it to be redone. I did not with the starter and was persuaded against my better judgment to have the main again. The main came back and was not up to the standards I expected. I basically sat in a restaurant without having a meal. My companion also had an issue with her dessert. To add insult to injury, I was charged for my meals and mash potatoes that I didn't consume. I had my meals taken off the bill, left and went to my local Caribbean restaurant for a takeaway. It ruined a birthday surprise, meal and it was not good

I dined at Chez Mal with four friends. Overall my friends and I agreed the food was really nice, but would say that the sponge pudding I had for dessert wasn't at all spongey - if I can use that word. It was very hard and in fact was more like a suet pudding texture. The gentleman sitting across from me on another table did complain about his and I can understand why he did. The service was a little on the slow side, but as we were a group of friends that meet every few weeks, this wasn't too much of an issue as we had lots to talk about and this passed the time between courses. I think if I had been dining as a couple, then the time between courses may have been an issue.
