Within a short stroll of London’s Bishopsgate and Houndsditch, Magpie serves hearty British food in a traditional pub setting. The building is set on the site of an early 20th-century ambulance station, where one of the first electric ambulances was stationed in 1909.
Since Nicholson’s pubs were first established in 1873, these traditional British inns have become synonymous with warm hospitality, hearty pub food and a speciality range of ales. As well as always featuring British pub classics like beer-battered fish & chips and gammon & eggs, the Magpie menu is complemented by a rotating selection of pie, sausage & chop and fish specials for each season.
The Magpie bar is always stocked with exquisite gins, warming whiskies and fine wines to pair with favourite meals, and there’s always a superb range of seasonal and regional real ales on offer. A constant at the bar is the St Austell-brewed Nicholson’s Pale Ale, made with Cornish Maris Otter malts, and a hand-picked blend of English hops.
Magpie in Liverpool Street is a 4-minute walk from Liverpool Street Tube and Rail stations.

We booked our meal on the basis of a previous visit, however this time the menu selection for both main & dessert courses was poor. Various choices were not available nor were subsequent choices.

It was a fiasco. They had booked the whole area to a group having a business lunch. They offered me a table in the noisy pub instead which was wholly inadequate. Very apologetic but very disappointing.

The five of us had a wonderful meal at the Magpie. We had a sharing platter for two, twice which was more than ample for the five of us. The main courses and sweets were all served together and were hot and delicious. The service that we received was excellent considering that we sat down at 18.30. On the whole a great time and we will be going back again.

Plain, simple but good "pub grub" and not too expensive by London standards
