Returning for its third year, the M & Bookatable Young Chef of the Year in association with Champagne Pommery is a nationwide competition showcasing the industry’s best up-and-coming talent.
Following heats in London and Manchester, the finalists each hosted their own pop-up night, with judging from both diners and industry figures. The judging panel which included top chefs and food writers such as Adam Handling, James Knappett and Felicity Spector provided 50% of each chef's final score, whilst the other 50% were awarded by diners on the night.
The winner will be crowned Young Chef of the Year at an awards ceremony on 4 September, and will also receive mentoring from M Restaurants Culinary Director Mike Reid, and a trip to Champagne courtesy of Champagne Pommery.

The ambience was great the atmosphere was buzzing and I really enjoyed being in the heart of London. The meals were exceptional especially the winner whom I appreciated his meal as a cut above the rest . I would recommend the restaurant without reservation as it’s stunning surroundings it’s great clientele was a pleasure to experience

We had the most wonderful meal at the Clink evening. The food was easily Michelin Star quality as was the service and ambience. All the dishes were excellent so I can't pick a favourite. I have many allergies so our menu was specially adapted for me. We will definintely be going back to eat at M Raw and to any future Clink evenings. The straw for my mocktail was a length gluten free pasta. Brilliant eco idea. Well done the whole team!

Extremely disappointing. The food overall was poor and the main course fish was cold and almost raw and had to be sent back. Dessert was bland. The ambience of the restaurant was more nightclub than restaurant with loud high energy music. The staff tried (unsuccessfully) to sit us on our own at the bar even though there were several more comfortable tables available

Wow what a fantastic evening and an outstanding menu from Jordan Kerridge. Each course was so well thought out and the combination of flavours was absolutely delicious. The lamb was perfectly cooked and the best I have ever tasted in a restaurant. Friendly welcome when we arrived and we really enjoyed the glass of chilled champagne. Great atmosphere in the restaurant and the staff timed the serving of each course perfectly. I really enjoyed the whole evening and this young chef is obviously incredibly talented. A big thank you to all the staff and especially Jordan - he gets top marks from me.

The food was for the competition so I will not say a word about it. Yet the fact that the service was pushing the dinner to go as fast as possible, was terrible. The service was literally against the poor chef that was competing and I find this the least unfair. We did spend a good amount of money regardless and we did enjoy ourselves, yet Honestly if it wasn't for the competition i would have removed service charges and would massively complaint to the management. It does come with great responsibility to host a National competition and you should all be ready for it. You should be more supportive and offer great service at your restaurant. Not pushing your dinners to eat fast at the same time judge the food and being pushed to eat everything as fast as possible. The service was absolutely unacceptable, unfortunately for you my clients are all working in the industry and they do know the drill. Please feel for those kids that their future is in your hands and be more responsible in the way you rota people for such events. You have beautiful premises support it the way you should. The concept was very fun and interesting, but unfortunately the ambience and service of the restaurant let the experience down. Although staff members were very nice, we had to ask for a lot of things, such as water and drinks menus. The experience could have potentially been enhanced if each dish and its elements were explained when they were served to us. The restaurant itself seemed a little mis-matched. There were a lot of different themes happening within the restaurant (beach, fine dining, tennis, party) and it was hard to get a read of what the vibe was. Overall it was an interesting experience, but could have been improved with some minor service adjustments. Best of luck to all the chefs!

We had a good evening and enjoyed all our food - a great combination of flavours and textures. However, we felt the service was patchy, although the waiting staff were friendly! We weren't given a glass of Pommery at the start of the meal (decided to ask for it with our dessert) and no bread with our starter. Our glasses of Torrontes and Albarinio had rather lost their freshness and fruit. There were longish gaps between courses - which we did understand given the event - and we weren't given whatever the the waiter poured around the desserts of the diners at our neighbouring table. An enjoyable but mixed evening.

Fantastic atmosphere, loved the room at the back where we were served champagne. Young chef of the year menu was incredible. Service a little slow. We asked for more bread during our starter and it turned up just before pudding was served.
