Looking out over the stunning Lake Windermere and surrounding mountains, The Windermere Restaurant at Low Wood Bay offers a striking setting filled with oak wood panelling and artworks by Viennese painter Gustav Klimt.

Premier British recipes are given inspired contemporary flourishes on the Low Wood Bay menu – marinated loin of venison is served with passionfruit and potato soufflé, while poche grilled chicken is paired with gnocchi with a tomato and olive sauce. There are also premium flourishes on the grill menu, such as the pork loin being dry-aged in a Himalayan salt chamber for 28 days.

On the dessert menu at Low Wood Bay Windermere, there is chocolate, juniper and sloe gin pudding, while the cheeseboard changes monthly, with 6 new local and British Isles cheeses brought in. Afternoon tea at Low Wood Bay is served in the Langdale Lounge with stunning views of the hotel grounds.

Sat amongst breathtaking grounds, Low Wood Bay is a 22-minute drive from Kendal Rail Station.

Booked table for 4 on a Tuesday early evening. We were shown promptly to our table, all laid out with silver service & given prompt attention by waiter who was friendly & efficient. After ordering the service was quick. For starters 3 of us had the lightly fried duck egg which was delicious, for mains 2 of us had fish & chips (generous portions, batter light, chips proper size!), 1 had spinach & chickpea curry which was tasty & 1 had spring lamb (well cooked & not quite as tender as expected). All dishes were well presented & generous so didn't have room for desserts! Only criticism is that the vegetables didn't arrive with course so we had to ask for them & then 2 dishes arrived but they were really tasty so worth the wait. All staff were very attentive, plenty of drinking water provided & the restaurant has a classy feel to it without being snobby. During the day, the views across Windermere are stunning.

From the moment you turn up it oozes class. We were greeted and looked after by fine members of staff. The Hotel is tastefully done. We dined in The Windermere Restaurant. 3 Course Set Meal. All food was served in a timely manner and was very tasty and if fine ingredients. Could not fault anything. A excellent special Restaurant in Windermere. !

The food was lovely couldn't fault this, unfortunately the service in the restaurant at dinner was very slow due to the lack of staff and experience.

Poor service in both the Windermere Restaurant and Blue Smoke Restaurant. Untrained young staff, surly and no customer service skills. Staff stood around near the kitchen and were not proactive in offering service. For example we were not asked if we would like a drink, when we asked the waitress did not ask if we would like to taste the wine, pour the drink or provide a wine bucket for the white wine. We waited approx. 40 minutes for second course and had to chase this up ourselves. The second course was brought to the table before first course plates were removed, the waitress tried to squash everything on the table, resulting in food being spilt on clothing. We had to ask for the dessert menu and coffee several times, eventually I had to get up and get the menu myself. Several people complained and one couple walked out. The food was very good in the Windermere Restaurant (when it eventually arrived) , it was reasonably priced at £31 for 3 courses plus coffee. However the service and other problems we had spoilt the dining experience. Blue Smoke restaurant is overpriced and mediocre food, The waitress in this restaurant was extremely surly and unhelpful, she would not help with a request to change chips for sweet potato fries. just said "not possible" and walked away. (even though there were sweet potato fries on the menu)

Overpriced, I’m more than happy paying for quality but felt for what was a fairly standard restaurant quality burger was very expensive. That being said the ambiance and service were very good.

Both restaurants are well presented. The Duck was excellent as was the pheasant and lamb. Seating in the Blue Smoke was very disappointing, only three couples in a large area and we were seated two feet apart on small tables. As the there were no other people in the area you could here the conversation on the other tables. This was crass of the management and basic common sense would not put three couples in touching distance in an otherwise empty restaurant. The nibbles Pizza was the worst I have ever tasted, paper thin.

The dining experience was very good, we found the service to be excellent the staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. The fish and chips and sticky toffee pudding are definitely worth having and the breakfast selection was excellent, it offered everything we wanted and more. We liked the way the staff offered the best tables overlooking the lake whenever they were available.
