It was a lovely experience and good to take children somewhere for afternoon tea. Also, plenty for children to do outside.
The only downside for me was the children's afternoon tea, it was very good but it only had 1 slice of carrot and 1 slice of cucumber. My daughter loves this part of it, I felt it could do with a few slices of each.

Very erratic restaurant service. Friendly but ineffective; mistakes on bills; not removing extra cutlery/plates from table, etc. Overpriced food and drinks. The grounds are lovely though.

Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff. Our scones were very hard, but staff apologised and bought us some replacements.

Unfortunately the food & table services at Woolley Grange don't do justice to its grounds. The menu (especially the kids) is not very adventurous (has crisps on it!); there are cheap mayonnaise, etc around instead of homemade one; its pricey for what it is (toddlers mini meals for £7.5) and the waiters however friendly they may be seem inefficient. The food/drinks can take a long time to arrive. Super expensive coffee for parents and well, I suppose they are charging for the grounds (eat & play?)...

I booked a table for Father’s Day lunch for my husband, daughter and I. The booking process was straightforward. We arrived and parking was easy. The lady on reception directed us to the restaurant. We were in the older part which is quite dark and the decor is dated, but is comfortable. I had informed them in advance that my husband is coeliac and they had this information written on the booking.

We ordered starters, roast beef and puddings. They were able to cater for a gluten free diet but we were surprised that they didn’t offer any gluten free bread or any alternatives to the Yorkshire pudding that they couldn’t serve (eg lots of places will give you more potatoes).

We were also surprised that whilst this is a hotel that caters specifically to children, there were no starters on the child’s menu (to keep them quiet while we ate ours!), and they didn’t bring any colouring etc when we arrived. There was also no child’s cutlery. This is standard even for places like Pizza Express, so seemed a bit odd. They did bring bread for our daughter and a colouring sheet on request. Our daughter’s main course was served at a different time to ours which was slightly odd too. When they brought the bill, it was incorrect twice (under and then overcharged).

Those are the negatives! There are also a lot of positives. The roast beef was the best we’ve ever had! Would go back for that alone. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel building itself is gorgeous, with lots of nooks with toys and play areas. Some of the toys are a bit old with broken bits and bits missing but our toddler didn’t mind. The grounds are what really makes the place stand out. We went for a wander after lunch and enjoyed the garden games, swing, pond with water boatmen, grass maze and sandpit. There are a few other areas we didn’t get to but we had such a lovely time.

Overall we had a great day. I thought it was very expensive, but would return for a special occasion.

I took my 97 year old Grandmother out for afternoon tea and was very pleased with the service. The man who led us to the table was very nice, didn't rush us and pulled the chair out for her. The food and location was lovely and it was a very enjoyable experience for us both.

Very good food let down by poor waiting service. The restaurant wasn't busy on Friday at 1pm yet we had to wait for a long time for waiting staff to approach us and to check that we had all we needed. We didn't feel looked after. We had to go in search of staff to order more drinks and to ask for the pudding menu. The woman in reception wasn't particularly welcoming or friendly. Unfortunately, we've been put off from returning. Perhaps this is venue only suited to people with a young family rather than a family like outs with teenagers.

Really enjoyed afternoon tea with friends, very friendly, good service.
Toilets were not very clean, but not really the fault of staff if users did not tell them

Wish there were more vegetarian options besides cheese, cucumber and egg. Service was ok. But not great. Could be more attentive. Overall a great day.
