We eat fairly regularly at Le Vacherin as it is one of our very favourite restaurants. The food and wines are always excellent. We dined here on 10th June and thought that the food was the best we'd ever eaten here. The heritage tomato soufflé was to die for and the salmon with beetroot barley risotto was delicious. The waitresses were professional, friendly and efficient as always. Anais always looks after us and all diners so well.

The ambiance was good, but the food and the service left much to be desired. It was a full 30 minutes from the time that we were seated at our table to the moment when the waitress approached to take our order. Then another 20 minutes or so before our drinks arrived, and a full hour had passed before the starters were served. This takes the edge off the experience before we have had started our meal. The food was not as good a quality as I’d hoped and the member of our party who chose the roast lamb was particularly disappointed- parts of the meat were inedible. The young waitress did not seem to understand what we said and asked the same questions several times. Finally the bill was wrong, and it took some time to get it corrected. Once it was corrected she could not seem to grasp that when we wished to pay with two separate credit cards that meant we wanted half on each card. It was not the relaxing and enjoyable occasion for which we had hoped.

The two of us were really looking forward to this dinner and the experience. Everything was fine at first, the starters were lovely, we had prosecco and ordered a nice Picpoul. Then problems began. I ordered hake and he ordered pheasant. I didn't get hake I got pork belly so I sent it back. Meanwhile the pheasant was so overcooked he couldn't actually cut it. And the second piece was just a big lump of fat that no one could eat and it was left on the plate. The quality of that dish was shocking, I'd be embarrassed to serve this to guests in my home! After waiting an absolute age for my main, it finally arrived, and we made a comment to say we weren't very pleased as it was nearly half an hour, no one came to talk to us or apologise at all during the whole time we waited. That's when the main waiter, who didn't even take the order, pointed at me and said it was my fault as I'd changed my mind about my order!! How does 'hake' sound like 'pig'?? He was very unpleasant and had a real attitude, so we ended up refusing to pay for the food, paid for the wine and left. I have never been treated this way anywhere so I really wasn't expecting it in a Michelin-starred establishment - neither did I expect being served overcooked meat. My friend was planning to book there so I advised her not to. I have also told everyone else I know to stay clear!
