Favourites on The Lazy Toad menu include loin of pork with Jerusalem artichoke purée, salt-baked celeriac and red wine salsify, blue cheese and hazelnut tortellini with crispy kale, and classic fish and chips served with minted mushy peas and hand-cut chips. Amongst the indulgent desserts, savour glazed banana loaf with peanut butter ice cream, or lemon posset with passion fruit jelly and shortbread biscuit.

Visited The Lazy Toad for lunch with my brother and his daughter today, along with one well behaved doggie.

From the outset I knew this would be a great venue. Car park nice and tidy, outside of the building well maintained and a beautiful outdoor seating area.

As soon as we walked through the traditional oak door we were greeted with a friendly smile and warm hello. Our booking was recognised without having to consult any diaries and we were seated in the bar area which was very well kept and stocked with a wonderful variety of whiskies.

Our host, Janice, brought over menus and took the drinks order. Drinks arrived quickly and we made our choice from the delicious lunch menu (not an easy choice as all of it looked wonderful) - we went for the beef and gravy sandwiches, served with skinny chips and salad. Child chose sausage, mash and peas plus imaginary fish bites for her teddy bear, which was noted on the order sheet.

Food only took about 10 minutes to arrive and boy was it good! Doorsteps of fresh bread, practically half a cow between, perfectly cooked and a delicious red wine gravy. Accompanied by perfectly cooked chips. I was full by the first half of the sandwich and Janice kindly offered to box up the other half of our sandwiches to take home for later (feasting on that now!)

Janice also offered our doglet treats and a bowl of water, going the extra mile and giving warm and friendly customer service with genuine care.

We indulged in pudding (rude not to!) which was equally delicious and freshly prepared.

We left with a warm fuzzy, very relaxed and happy feeling.

If you're looking for a country pub without the hustle and bustle but fine traditional dining then The Lazy Toad ticks all of the boxes, I'll be returning again and again for family meals and celebrations :-)

We arrived at 7pm. The pub was very quiet at first but soon livened up. Although the menu was fairly small, the food was really excellent and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Can thoroughly recommend.

Excellent food, cosy interior. Lacking a little in atmosphere due to only a few other tables having dinner in the restaurant. Perhaps some background music on quiet nights would help. I would definately book again as the food was delicious.

Very pleasant surroundings, staff attentive and accommodating. Service was very good with all food/drinks brought to us timely and with a smile. The only negatives I can comment on was the menu was rather limiting and on a personal note, I would have much preferred a choice of steak cut as i never eat filter as a rule but as I had little choice, I certainly would have had a larger steak than a 5oz one as I do not believe it is sufficient for a adult man.
Overall, it was a good evening and my family and friends enjoyed the experience.
