Since the first La Tasca restaurant opened in 1993, the menu has won a string of awards, and stays committed to showcasing the finest available ingredients and bold, natural flavours. We have eaten at La Tasca many times over the years and generally been very pleased with our dining experience. However, last night left us feeling disappointed with our food. We chose a few new dishes which sounded lovely in the description: Hake fillet pan-fried with garlic, paprika & sherry vinegar served on a bed of sliced potatoes, caramelised shallots & samphire; Roasted chicken breast with lemon & thyme dressing served on a chargrilled asparagus; Traditional potato, caramelised onion & egg frittata; A fresh salad of mixed heritage tomatos dressed with extra virgin olive oil & flaked sea salt, and Warm Catalan-style roasted, chargrilled vegetables. The hake and chicken were both over-cooked and fairly tasteless as a result, also the piece of chicken was not only very tough but also very small. Not entirely sure where the caramelised shallots were in the hake dish, however, it did seem to include some sort of straw potatoes of which there was no mention? The frittata was ok, just. However, the roasted, chargrilled vegetables were extremely mushy, to the point where they were unrecognisable and were certainly not chargrilled by any stretch of the imagination. We didn't complain about the food as we were dining pre-theatre, had felt that La Tasca was a reliable place to eat and were short on time but, on reflection, we should have raised the issue. Service was alright, however, it seems each server had a dedicated member of staff to serve and if they were busy doing something else (clearing/wiping tables, serving, at the till or in the kitchen) other servers were either not permitted or didn't want to serve you. As a current customer assistant part of my role is to ensure we make every moment special for the customer - we certainly did not feel that last night. The dessert was a delight; Caramelised peach with raspberry sorbet & puree, vanilla ice cream & crushed meringue and went some way to rectifying our poor dining experience. Very disappointing overall.

Firstly they had no details on our reservation, we were shoved in the corner of the restaurant when it was quite empty we think because we had young kids, we had to ask to be served, the food came before our drinks, the food wasn't hot and we were missing some of our order. The tapas menu is excellent and very tasty but the experience has put us off going back. It seems they have sacrificed quality service and food for getting the numbers in!

The restaurant was packed full and we were seated next to the cash register and kitchen hatch, very inappropriate as trays were left on the top of the shelf next to our heads. Some of the food was cold and was served to soon after we ordered it, We think it was warmed up!!
Instead of having a relaxing meal before going to the theatre we felt like we had been to a fast food chain, not at all happy after being here in the past and had a lovely time.
